The Revival of Adam King

SJ10K Run is my first competitive run for this year and I was worried that not been be able to finish within the top 100 finishers. I have not been running competitive running for almost a year due to lack of trainings. Anyway 10K is not my pet event and this has added to my disadvantages cos I do not posses the endurance speed unlike people like Ronny, Justine,Hairul and Vincent.

A week before the race I try to train as much speed endurance as possible and on the race day just to finish top 100 will do for the sake of getting a finisher medal. According to statistic provided by Rohaizad year 2003 he finished 89 position with a time of 52min, so in that case if this year I could complete within 50min I should be among top 100 so what is the problem to me I thought.

On the actual morning I reach Justin's house to park my car but he was still zzzzzzz so I decided to park nearer to the Stadium. I met Alden the lastest PM38 and handed over his bib and Gary's and saw Ronnie and gang, we chatted and more pacesetters member came around. At 7.30am the race flagged off by Datuk Lee Hwa Beng the MP of SJ. I was stranded in the middle of the crowd so I had to run outside the pack there where I saw Ryan Teoh and shouted at him "come follow me" and he trailed me all the way until the last 1km where he "pancit".

I was too excited and nerves so I followed Tey as he was running fast and 50m ahead of me. I just hang on my pace and said to myself as long as I can see Tey I should able to finish within 100 position. So I kept pace and slowly overtaking some runners and I was overtaken by 2 runners along the race if I am not wrong. At the 4km mark I caught up with Tey and we ran side by side and as we reach the 7km mark along Jalan Tujuan Tey just relax his pace as he knew that 100 medals is within reach but I had to pace evenly to ensure I could finish the race and hopefully to receive a medal.

With 1km to go I saw Jack Toh finishing strongly followed by Ronnie, Hairul,Justin,Kenneth and few pacesetters runners. My heart was pumping hard and at the U-turn I could see more runners chasing behind me namely Louise, Kelvin Ng,Carmen and many more I said wow so competitive the people never give up . I was tired and quickly run past Carol Low and headed to the finishing line and managed to overtake one runner and saw my position 58 and time clocked 45m 23sec. I was glad that the race finally over and finished within top 100. I guess this is my season best time and after the race my fitness has somehow boosted and ready to be competitive again. I must thank Tey for pacing me.

In future races you people will see more Adam in action.

Pacemaker # 38 - Alden Yap Wooi Huen

I used to workout in bukit jalil golf club for gym (treadmill and free weights), swimming and lots of sauna, until age cukup tua- cannot use facilities after 21years old. so have to venture outside. Was a nomad switching parks from Taman Komanwel, Bukit Jalil Park, Kelana Jaya, Taman Jaya, Shah Alam, Subang and even the smaller Menjalara Park until permaisuri was found by accident when a working colleague told me he was in charge of the HUKM project and informed there was a nice park in front of the hospital (since i liked exercising). That was 2001 when i found Permaisuri. It was the perfect place for me. Not too far from home, has a good jogging track and a swimming pool. So, running took on a more serious tone after "settling down" in PMR, a great change for a nomad. O ya, this nomad was never in a proper running attire. Started off in a pair of Airwalk shoes, bermuda shorts and an oversized t-shirt, you get the idea....

Was still new to the running scene. didn't know anyone. After 2nd run in seremban half, kelvin invited me to join pacesetters. from there, everything was history...But why do i join PACM? I guess it's not so much of the club. when I run, i meet new people and new people form new group of friends who like running. PACM is the club that embodies many other groups of people from all walks of life, who like running. So, it's only natural to be in this club to have this sort of network of friends with the same hobby. Just like how PM was formed, i guess...;) I plan to run at least 3 marathons a year and to cover at least 50 marathons by the age of 40. And to do the Ironman by the age of 30.

My ranking of sports that i like: 1. Biathlon (Swim-Run) 2. Triathlon Olympic Distance(Swim-Bike-Run), if only i liked cycling it'd been first in the list. 3. Half Marathon 4. Full Marathon 5. 10km runs - can you believe I'd choose a full marathon over a 10km run?! because it's bloody competitive! Sporting Achievement 1. Won 2 silver, 3 bronze medals for inter-campus swimming competition in the Varsity Games 2. Won 1 silver, 1 bronze of Age-group swimming competition by MPPJ 3. Best 10km time = 43minutes (if cukup 10km) 4. Best half marathon time = 1hr 42mins 5. Best Full Marathon time= 4 hrs 15mins. Other favourite past time : Quiet time by myself, reading, impulse writing (only with inspiration), surfing internet and looking for nice food.

Other details of myself other than sports:
Occupation : Labourer doing highways Marital status: Single, but already have to manage a few babies like Kelvin Ng (haha!) Education level: Up to Sekolah Pondok, Ulu Kelang Next ambition: Ah Long of Bukit Beruntung Favourite food: Almost everything except PowerBar! Some other stupid things I do: Writing "details of myself other than sports".

PM22 85% race in Subang Jaya 10km

My first medal in 10km run

I would like to share my experience in Subang Jaya 10km run.May be it is normal, but some runners was surprised with my performance recently.

I have plan 7 sunday race, mainly is focus on Melaka full, for 10km run like Subang Jaya,I just use to test my feeling of pacing,as I inexperience in race without distance mark,it was tough to adjust..except u can driving to know exactly the mark of distance before the race.

During race eve,I have a happy dinner and tong sui with my Master Chen and family,he boost myself confidence, even I don't care for medal, cause 10km is not my favourite event.

As past experience,I always sleepless ,so this race plan on bed at 10.30pm,wake up 5am,even 5.10am raining for about 10minutes..so nice weather to continue sleep, but force myself, ate 2 BEE POLLEN and one class water.

I arrived MPSJ ,then quickly put my reporting card, after chat with pm1 couple,I put my bag in luggage centre ,avoid COPS run case happen, where I long Q at luggage centre..wasting time and no warm up.

After that,I met with Phyllis,Kenneth,Dr,Rohaizad,Lisar,many....we all slow run as warm up.

I have no special plan at all before the race, only focus keep my pace and continue, but sure no speed like friendly race in TTDI with Master Chen.

While waiting at the centre pack,I manage gosip with PM2,my friends from Kepong :seok jiun(sj),her sister seok ling, and others.May be this also less our tension and pressure.

When heard the shot gun,I press my watch for start the timing, but at the centre pack,it is not a good idea, walk slow, run slow,so I quickly decide to turn right,wah...I heard Dr and MeiMei said me crazy liao, then pass Jason Lim who enjoy running with MP3,he surprise me said:Wah,so fast ah !!

But honestly I just keep larger pace with no feeling of speed, this is from what I train at TTDI n learn from Master, what is speed,I just keep this momentum and continue on.

It is difficult for me,cause don know what is my pace per km,just keep this feeling pace run, about 20minutes,TTDI malay good runner pass me,I only said hi to him,he said no run at sj10km..wah...but his number is 800plus,last minute entry.

Met Adam at about 5 to 6km..don't know it is correct or not,we pace each other until few hundred meter before turn left at summit.

I have no rush and pia with him, just let him go and saw his buntut only, but I manage to potong orang sayur also, one of them is Wong from Klang, good friend also gua no said hi,hehehe !

After turn to shop house,I felt still fresh, can speed if I intend for timing, but also just keep my same pacing, after reach MPSJ U turn,I am sure got medal liao..no kc...but also over happy.

My finishing time is 45:57,my first ever in 10km race, also my 10km PR.

I only manage to snap 2 photos, one is pm20 and one is Phyllis, then deliver some relay photos and chat to running friends, then toward justin house to give him a surprise birthday celebration.

We enjoy the food ,tq justin !

Below is my analysis for my race and some view to share:

1.I train about 15km to 24km from monday to wednesday ,then rest kau-kau 3 days !

2.TTDI lake track is good for me,cause hilly ,one lap is about 2.2km,it train my muscle more endurance and more fit.

3.Have nice sleep before race,no pressure !

4.My daily meal also change a lot recently ,cause I no take supper, dinner normally no meat.No spicy food..to avoid body uncomfortable.

5.BEE POLLEN also help me a lot, cause it can help recover my tire and energy I lost in training.

6.Have a good warm up before the race.

7.Mention I use 85%,may be is 70%-80%,kena KNN knn kau-kau lat, cause he aim me as his target. But it is my rule, don pia all out, enjoy the race and avoid any risk ,INJURY FREE ...most important for me,cause I have many race coming too n want to run forever !!

8.Drink herbal tea (pahit)often,to protect my body from fever, cough, cause weather recently is not good.

My Kan Koh ever relay race! - Story of Pia n Masam Sweat by Ge Ge Tey

I am so lucky to have a medal of this adidas pacesetters 4 x3km road relay event, mix feeling on this 3.2km road as first runner, even it is so short distance for me,but during the race felt like end of the world,it is team work and team spirit,u can't disappoint other members, but if can't all out,how is the feeling ? Tension ....pressure.......!!!

So kc,but no cham like Captim hv to wake up see tv until 6am....hehehe,cause me only awake at 2am and 4am,pack all the thing b4 sleep, paper, foto, camera, filem, battery, kau tim early early.

I finally wake up at 5am,ate little of banana favour POWER Bar and bee pollen, went to buy 4 ekor, double check bag, then depart from 17 house sharp at 5.55am ,reached bkt jalil about 6.25am,met with Jason and Sim plus others kaki! First thing, pass Nuang map to Jason as he intend to go Nuang next month 24 !

Went to meet all my members,Batu Pahat kaki take LRT,warm up little, peluh pun tarak keluar oh ! My face look very calm ,but I am very kc,cause my relay captain said to me:"You must stay infront of the starting point, sprint from the start, don't block by ohters, waste time, and our target is atleast try to get top 5,ok ? " My mouth intend to open BIG BIG ask,can I use my strategy kah ,but..........fear to bring them worry.....just answer yes ,yes ,yes....! Who know my kc lah....! Who know my fear inside my heart....!!!

Then ,pm19 from stair said hi to me,how ? hahaha...I went up ,and describe my kc .....!! Ada sikit kesal liao ,join this event....all runners pia speed..it is not my favourite pace...!! Cham ,Cham ...I only can said diam-diam....didn't let members know, even John snap my foto ,ask for pos,me also kc lah pos lah...smiling CHAM CHAM face !!

Yup,y me so kc,cause this is my first time represent PACM,first time in relay race, youngest in the team but slowest in the team,if u r me,will you kc like me ah ?

And u have to understand PACM team A,KLAVA team A and B,plus adidas team in men junior veteran so strong, where got chance to get top 5 lah !!! I said to myself,if get top 10,ok liao !

Ok..after order to starting point,I didn't stand in front, just centre part,my plan is start don't too fast, worry puncit,so,I just use my bigger pace feeling to run, don't speed like friendly race with MASTER !

After one round of 400metres,we went up to tar road in NSC,and went out from NSC(nasional sport council),turn left, feeling still good, but the KAN KOH and mix feeling is all in my mind, should I pia like end of the world, can I maintain to the finishing,I keep my pace, but b4 went to turn left the main road, two team overtake me,wah lau eh ,jia lat liao...I felt so guilty and sad, plan to keep pace and follow their buntut, but you know ,if u want to join next year, can't follow lah, cause they all pia like siu kia lah ! And me not pia style in short event !!!!

I felt want to pia,but on the other hand worry,it may affect my right ankle, cause friendly race with master, felt little pain, but run still ok,so I just maintain ,don't let more team to overtake me,I guess I am in 7 or 8...still got hope if I keep it on......!!

After back to NSC ,half way saw PM1,no time to say hello,I just lift up my hand ,tried to pia at last 600metres,little fast not all out,but not felt like friendly match with master pace ,when reach last 100 metres,I am so happy,123.......all out liao...hahaha...when pass the baton ,I don't care liao...direct went to take my bag,and snap foto time for my team members and also others ,like pm1 team ,runners who I know...!

But at PACM counter when I ask for my bag,I can't even speak...just use finger point out which is my bag... SHTAN,JENNY LEONG and uncle TAN,try to ask me ,Tey:Want water or not ? ok bo ? u face WHITE WHITE liao !

Wah...I just use hand language, can't even talk,if u see me like that, will you run in relay ? Have to think twice oh........!
My KAN KOH only can calm down after half an hour,I think ,no more next time liao, kia kah boh si ! Only no pangsai like pm1 lah .Don't want to try anymore, got one medal is enough and happy for me,somemore I think I am a replacement, cause so many good runners didn't join pacesetters....!!

After recover from race,my mind is more clear,I think I shouldn't friendly race with master, cause even pm1 and pm19 also skip thursday speed work on track, gua SIOW SIOW run fast with master, don't know "DIE" how to write lah....hahaha !

Even all of my older age than me team members, final week skip the speed work...hahaha,it is good lesson for me ! I will remember it forever !

My other can't all out reason is in short race, don't have the distance mark, not like training,I think I need to learn about my pace very consistent!

I think I still can improve my timing, but I don't want take risk, cause still have 6 sunday race to go,sorry for my team members, can't get better timing, just lucky to have them ,potong sayur one by one,and old sky ah ye(lau tian ye) treat me so good, two junior veteran team(they follow other two men open team) ran wrong way to ASTRO,so,even saw PM10(Vincent Wong),why he is trail by so many runners, that time gua still don't know ,my team may be have chance to get medal........hahaha ! Kan Koh pun ada medal ,run not good also ada medal !! Thanks to team members,it is all of your effort !! I will remember it forever !! Kam Siah !

Last, thanks PACM gave me this chance, and also John Tan take few of my photos....!!

adidas / FTAAA / PACM 3 x 4km Road Relay 2005

I really don't know how to write dis report, anything wrong pls forgive me ya!

Before der Race!
I couldn't sleep on saturday nite, alto very early on bed! Roll here n there, but still kenot sleep! Calculate der sheep 1 by 1, still kenot sleep.TNS!!! der whole nite couldn't sleep at all. So wake up n watch TV until 6:00am, den off to Bukit Jalil.

On der Race Day!
Frankly speaking, we're aming for top 8th finishes. Never tot of going beyond der limits, if yes it could be our bonus day. As a team captain of Pacesetters G, it was my responsibily to arrange der line up. And of course, fast runner should run
longer (extra 200m), n slow runner should run shorter. So it was Fong Tong Kim, who offer him self to run der 1st runner n Tan Song Hua der last runner. Me n Justin der average runner, run in 2nd n 3rd respectively. And i was very honour to
hv dis two powerful teammates. Fong n Tan are from Batu Pahat. Justin was in a bad shape, sore throat, fever n cold. But he still show der spirit of PIA! Thank You Justin Lee!

Kan Cheong! Nervous! Pressure! n Pia kau-kau lat!
To cut der stoty short, When Fong enter to der Stadium, he was in position #2. I was so damn shocking TNS pressure, summore at his back got whole bunch of indian following very closely. Once i got der baton, i speed like no body business. Even if my shiet going to come out, oso never mind lah. After out from der stadium, i was potong sayur by 2 indian fellas. Damn! I can't afford to lose gap, so follow them very tight. Position drop to #4, manage to maintain all der way until i pass baton to Justin. Justin look very excited, den in a split seconds. *poof* gone oredi. My time was 10:57, erasing my previous time of 11:36. I couldnt believe my eyes!

God bless Justin!
I was so worry about Justin, due to his sickness. Me n Pm21 pray he'll come back safely. Once Justin enter der stadium, me, pm21, pm2 n pm29 shout out loud to cheer for Justin. Suddenly Andreas der German runner, come from behind very strongly. Clocking der same time as ours team. Both time tie @ 33:04!!! Position still mantain @ #4.

Thriller Battle!
Everyone look so excited, as both of PACM team tie at der same timing. So it time for our experience runner Tan Song Hua to potong sayur kau-kau lat. As time move faster n faster, everyone heart oso bum faster n faster. JIALAT!!

TO BE CONTINUE... IF I KNOW HOW TO CONTINUE LAH..

Official Result (Men Open):

der_pacemaker #30

Dear Ronnie,

Thank you for making me one of the Pacemakers - the PM30! I would like to share my running story with all the PM gang :-

I discovered my talent in athletics while I was in primary school. I was then, a young 11-year old boy and one of the quickest in the "police & thieves" game. I was able to catch all the 'thieves' within seconds using one leg as required by the game.

My competitive running started when I was in Form 1 at the age of 14. I actually offered myself to take part in the 1500m as nobody would like to enter the 'long' distance. Without any prior experience and training, I won the first medal of my life - a silver! Since then, I had been running for my red team and won medals in the 1500m and 4x400m.

Personally, my best achievement was when I managed to overtake a lot of adults and students aged 30 and below to finish Forth in a 8-km ex-boys road race. At that time, I was only 15 years old!

When I was 18 years old (Form 5), I ran my first half marathon - the 21.6km Alor Setar Half Marathon with a time of 1:44:53. I could have done better if not for pacing with a newly-known friend who was struggling to complete the race.

I ran my first full marathon - the sixth KLIM in May 1990, when I started working in Kuala Lumpur at the age of 22. I completed the marathon in 4:56:28. It was a painful experience as my legs were swollen and I had a 50 cent-sized blister in one of the legs. As I was poor then, I ran with the only sports shoe that I had - a pair of tennis shoe!

Ever since I joined Pacesetters in 1997, I was transformed to a better and smarter runner. Todate, I have completed 10 full marathons and many half and quarter marathons. My personal best time for full and half marathons were 3:49:48 (Penang Bridge 2002) and 1:27:04 (PJ Half 1998) respectively.

Together with my wife and a few close friends, we had participated in a few overseas runs in Songkhla and Haadyai (Thailand), Honolulu and Florida (USA), Sydney (Australia) and Singapore. So far, we still vote the Honolulu Marathon as the best -in terms of organization and participation.

As you can see, running has been part of my lifestyle. Through running I have gained a lot - physical and mental health, knowledge, wisdom, friendship and even a life partner! I intend to keep running forever!

der_pacemaker #28

Hi! I’m Yit Kiat or Khoo as to what most of my friends in KL call me. When Ronnie a.k.a. PM1 asked me to write a report about myself, I do not know where to begin. Will try my best.

I’ve been competing in running races since 1989, but only took running seriously in 1992. Long distance running came by chance. I took up middle distance running just because I thought I would have more time to catch up with other runners. The 1500M was the first running race I ever took part in 89 and I came in second, but my running didn’t take off from there.

Tennis was the sport I love then. Running was part of my tennis training, so I’ve been keeping myself fit all year round. One day in 1992, I just had enough with tennis as I just wasn’t winning and mind you, it’s not a cheap sport if you don’t have sponsors! So I started training more specifically for running. I didn’t have any coaches, met some friends and just copied their training. I came in second in an inter-school meet in a 3000M steeplechase event, where I was leading the race till I fell in the last lap water jump. Man! That was a big disappointment! To make matter worse, it was mention in our local newspaper! Anyway, coming in second I’ve helped my school to win the A division. My running “boom” came when I met this Indian runner, Kaliani in 1993. He was our state top long distance runner and me and a close friend started training with him. That’s when our PBs started coming down. I did win several races but keep losing to….the friend who I was training with. He was my rival then from another school. So, I do not have to collect Pewter medals but I do have a lot of silver medals under my collection. : )

Most of my rivals from schooldays have retired from running since, but I’ve kept running, probably being feeling dissatisfied of finishing second far too many times!!! Haha! Even ran in races in New Zealand when I was studying there. What a beautiful country to run in.

I did stop temporarily for about 2 years when I came over to KL in 1999, until one day I just couldn’t stand KL work life. All I do is work, eat and sleep. So I had enough of it, so one fine morning in 2002 I went to Bukit Aman carpark to join in the Pacesetters group in their long run. (Actually, I knew about the group long before that, and even join in one of their breakfast run in Bukit Jalil in 1999 but that was the first and the last run I had with them till that morning.) Boy, do I feel regret that I joined in the run that morning. I was a bit late arriving to the scene, most of the runners just took off, so I gave a quick chase. Caught up with one the group, I asked one of the guys, “How far will you all be running today?”. The guy answered back, “21km”. In my head, I was going to say “Wah lau! Crazy meh!” But being a bit egoistic, I hide that feeling and said, “Will try to followlah!” Guess who was the person who answered me? It was Kelvin Ng!! I didn’t finish the run that morning. Had to U-turn back after about 6-8km. But I was glad to run that morning and from there I was brought into the world of Permaisuri Pacesetters Group. Managed to gain some of my fitness back and started competing in races again. Instead of plastic medals I got from my schooldays, now, I started collecting nice looking medals, pewters and of course the nice looking trophy I got from the PAR2005.

So here I am, still running competitively (but not training as much as I would like to!). Came to know Ronnie when he secretly introduced himself as the Pacemaker in our Permaisuri “forum”. I’m really glad to know him and being introduce (and made a member now!) to his Pacemaker group. Thanks Ronnie! I’m very honored.

That’s about it from me, gotta RUN!

der_pacemaker #29

Hello everyone I am the latest "product" of Pacemakers and I am ranked 29. I loved running at a young age and started running at the tender age of 11years old that was when I represented my house sport day. During that time I could only able to run 100m and as time goes by I attempted long and long distances.

I ran my 1st marathon in April 1987 (KIM) after I joined Pacesetters in Jan 1987 and my achievement was not too bad , I clocked 4hr min just missed sub four. I used to trained with Jenny Lm and other very senior runners. Toddle I have participated 12 full marathons and countless 21km and 10km. My best achievement for full marathon so far is 3hr and 30 mins clocked back in 1990. I consider an achievement that not many runners are able to achieve especially PM7.

I hope to make a comeback to competitive running and break my personal best for the full marathon.

I only started walking after 2 years old. My parentsthought I was defected in the walking department.Obviously they panicked. Normally babies start tocrawl and walk by 15-19 months. I had to wait 24freaking months to start walking.

I never had a thing for running when I was young. Myparents would take us (my sister and I) jogging and I loathed it. It was such a chore. I would rather watchcartoons.

Even during school days, whenever there were PElessons, I would rather play cricket or some othercontact sports rather than run.

I supposed the running bug bit when I was working andjoined a gym (for the fun of it). Since my idea ofjoining a gym was for health and not to bulk up, I dida lot of anaerobic and endurance training on thetreadmill, stationary bicycle and stair-master. Then Istarted jogging and running on the tarmac and Idiscovered PaceSetters. I joined the club and startedto train seriously.

KLIM 2001 ½ marathon was the first major running eventI ventured into. I completed the race around 2 hours20 minutes. My first ever medal and that started theball rolling of a new hobby; collecting medals.

Initially, I joined many races to obtain experiencesimply because I will never find myself in the top 30for the medals. I have run a number of ½ marathons and10km races. Many friends have urged me to join thefull marathon couple of years back but I knew I wasnot ready for it. I was constantly teased for notrunning a full marathon and calling myself a runner.

Reason being I did not want to “just complete” themarathon by the stipulated time given, I wanted to domore. I set a sub-5 hours target. I completed mymaiden KLIM 2005 in 4 hours 49 minutes. I was veryhappy and in many levels proud of this achievement.

I do racewalking as well. Surprised? Well, I surprisemyself sometimes. I have joined the Malay Mail BigWalk a couple of times for the 10km walk and went homeempty handed. Last year (2004) I braved myself to signup for the 20km walk. My target was at least get thefinisher medal. Astonishingly, I managed to obtain21st position for the Men National Open. Seriously, Idid not expect that. My biggest achievement so far(besides completing the full marathon).

Running is more than just a hobby to me now, it is alifestyle I have adopted and is some what etched intomy routine. Another thing is that I am at my happiestwhen I see my medal collection burgeoning every year.

Why I'm Proud To Be A PM

I met Ronnie thru Jamie about a year ago. If I remember correctly, the first time we met was at KLCC KFC for lunch. His reputation (fast, funny and humble runner) preceded him. Some other fast runners were also there. They were all discussing about running and especially about how to run faster. Most of the time I was listening as there was not much I knew about running then. To my surprise and happiness, Jamie pop the question to Ronnie. 'Can include Newton as PaceMaker ah?'.

Another big pleasant surprise was the reply from Ronnie. 'No problem. Wat number u wan.'. Wow not only his response was non-hesitant but can choose number also! Being Chinese, I chose 18 since it was still available. And that was that, I was PM18! No questions asked. Zero, nil, zilch. I felt moved as both Jamie and Ronnie did not judge me by my running ability. They just wanted people to run. Or maybe they wanted a slow sidekick but I don't think so. I am glad and honoured to be PM18. Thanks to Jamie and Ronnie.

The PAR (PaceMakers Anniversary Run) is proof that PaceMakers and friends are a wonderful and helpful bunch. We had a good goody bag, more than enough water at water station, nice trophy, reliable luggage control, wonderful photographers, encouraging volunteers and etc. From the list you can see that the run was very well organized and the atmosphere was happy and fun. Probably that is why quite a number ran their personal best on that day! Thanks to PM1 for forming PaceMakers and also to all that made this wonderful run possible!

der_pacemaker #33

I started running at a very young age. Every kid runs but I ran everywhere, I ran to the kitchen, to the shop, everywhere I ran instead of walking. Just like a Kenyan schoolboy except I was living in Klang, was not chasing after cows and took a bus to school. I was not good at sports during primary school. My favourite game was marbles!

During secondary school, I was at a boarding school from Form one to five. The school was Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor at Cheras. In the evening the students were allowed to go out jogging. I usually jogged to Taman Midah and sometimes around the lake at Kg Congo. This lake area has now become Taman Tasik Permaisuri. On most days, I jogged, stopped at stalls to buy fruits and played video games.

When I went overseas for study in Australia, I continued to run but only during the summer. Winter was too cold and I did not ever think of running during winter. I mostly ran on football fields. I did not run very far, maybe 20-30 minutes. I ran not because of competition but for enjoyment.

After starting work , I ran intermittently but I stopped completely between 1992 and 1999. I became fatter , the heaviest I've ever weighed was 62 kg (137 lbs), In fact I had to make a new set of trousers as the old ones was too small.

In July 1999, I decided to attempt to climb Mount Kinabalu before year 2000. I started to run again to train for the climb. After 6 weeks, I climbed Mt Kinanbalu on 31 August. After that , I decided to continue running because it made me feel better.

That was 6 years ago, I have continued running, lost 7 kg and become healthier, fitter and met a lot individuals who loved running as much as I do.

The attendance for the race was 100% comprising volunters and runners. I started the race with the first lap tiing of 6 min 3sec. This was considered my fastest timing per lap for the KLCC Park. Then for the other laps my timingsplit drops to approxiately 7 min per lap. After running 3 laps my timing was approximately 20 min. My timing after 4 laps was approximately 28 min. My timing for 5 laps was 36 min. By the 6th lap, my timing was 44 min. Entering the 7th lap my timing was approximately 51 min. I finished my race with a timing of 57 min 25 sec, a personal record for me. My last personal record was 1 hr 1 min 57 sec in 22nd position.

Overall the race was well organised with water provided to runners after 3 laps of running. There were volunteers counting the loops runners had covered and taking the time of the runners. On average for every kilometre my timing was 5 min 31 sec. Each runners received trophies for their effort in completing the race.
