Welcome to Meow... Meow...
What : Saberkas RH Marathon
When : Sunday, 26th March 2006
Where : Petrajaya - Kuching, Sarawak
Distance : more than 21 km
der Good..
Woah.. no entry fee, somemore received free t-shirt, Powerbar, shoe bag, Sarawak cap, drink & meal coupons such as V-soy, 100plus, bananas, bread, free dinner & breakfast - but only for full marathoner, mineral water to take as many bottles as u like. And furthermore, free transportation to n from to the starting point n return to the hotel. Excellent handling of baggage, nice bib numbers. This was really unbelievable!! No organizer had accomplished such as this before, they were simply the best in Malaysia.
der Bad...
Starting time for 21 km brought forward to 6.15 am from 6.30 am, then moved back to 6.30 am. Couldn't they made up their mind? Number of mobile toilets were inadequate,2 for male & 2 for female, to accomodate 10,000 runners? Distance markers were not placed, so I had to gauge the distance from water stations as every 5 km there was one. Race marshalls pointed me to the wrong turn, damn cilaka! Asked them how further to the finish line, but no one marshall seemed to know. After I crossed the finishing line, appeared like nothing had happened, they just asked me to move aside. Hey! Where the heck is my well-deserved medal ahh? The reply from them was, "I don't know!". So upset and very dissappointed. When arrived back to look for my beautiful Rachel, she told me to collect the medal & certificate from the collection center. So I asked one of the official ppl where it was located? She replied, "Sorry I don't know" damn again! So I went and looked for it by myself lah.
My 21 km Split Time:
05km - 21' 29.96 > 0h 21' 29.96 (on target)
10km - 22' 33.20 > 0h 44' 03.16 (on target)
15km - 22' 12.32 > 1h 06' 15.48 (on target)
22km - 34' 59.00 > 1h 41' 14.48 (off target)
der Ugly...
15 minutes later, somebody told me medals for 21 km were already finished liao! As what I heard lah, all the 21 km medals were grabbed by 5 km school boys and girls. It was the biggest upset for all those 21 km finishers, including Joviet Sim PM25, Draco Ng PM24 & Woofy PM31 no medals for them too. Luckily, this time for Ryan Teoh Mei Mei PM17, he didn't "kantoi". To my horror, those students attempted to sell the medal each for RM10.00, that was really too much liao. And u know what? I saw some of the FTAAA ppl too, didn't know what the heck were they there for? Shouted & scolded ppl they pandai lah!
der Conclusion...
Honestly, I really enjoyed the run & the wonderful trip to beautiful Kuching. What more with my gangs of Pacemakers joining along, really made this journey so enjoyable, memorable & trully unforgetable.
...will be back again next year... (if airasia still offer free ticket :-p)
Next Stops:

Re: SABERKAS RH Marathon 2006
Dear Jason Tai,
Thanks for offering medals to those whom completed within the qualifying time but no medals. I was lucky to get one since I came in early for the half marathon. Some suggestions I would like to put forth so that we runners will continue to come again next year. Afterall there was quite a number of participants from Kuala Lumpur running in your Kuching event for the first time. So I guess whether my pacesetter friends come again will depend on this outcome.Kuching is a clean city and for me it's first time to be taking part in your event. I understand that some of my friends skipped KL International marathon just to participate in your event. My suggestions are:
1) Segregate the medal giveaway tents away from each other like your full marathon. Having the 10 and 21km medals tents side by side will create chaos due to too many people crowding the tents. Thus medal was incorrectly given out.
2) Or give away medals as the runners come in at the finishing point within the qualifying time. Or medal claim voucher.
3) Having 5, 10, 15,20,25,30,35 & 40 km markers at refreshment stations. There was none or lack of it when I ran. It's good motivation to us running first time since we do not know how far to go. Doesn't cost much anyway.
4) I understand from my friend that the drinks station wrapped up before the full marathon ended thus with the hot weather on that day it was a torturing run for some.
5) Rope in more sports accesories booths offering special discount to runners.
6) Have accomodation packages for outstation participants from KL for example. Just a tie up with some hotels offering discount for runners only. With reasonable packages we can look forward towards extended stay thus promoting Kuching tourism.
Hope you will look into some of my suggestions and make it such that it will be worth for me and the rest of the runners to look forward to your event every year which I am sure you can. Anyway thanks to you and your organising committee for this successful event. I definitely had my first taste of Kuching.
Rgds,
YF Chong

Hi Chong
Congrats on finishing the Race! On behalf of the organising committee, my apologies for the hiccup on the finishing medals! and thank you for your comments and suggestions on improvements for the next one!
We have made arrangements with the supplier to make additional medals and will be sent to all who missed out!
Segregating the categories or giving out at finshing point is definitely the way to go next time. I am surprised to hear that the drinks station closed earlier as the person in charge of the stations called me at 12:30pm to ask whether he can close. Will defintely investigate further.
As for the hotels, we did offer packages but there were no many takers. perhaps the packages were not attractive enough but we will bargain for better packages next time.
We did want to put together a sports and fitness expo but due to lack of a hall and the location of the Start & Finishing point, we could not this time round. For the next one, we hope to hold it in city centre.
Your suggestion on km markers at drink stations noted.
Once again, my apologies for the shortcomings! and thank you very much for joining us at the Tropical Race!
Happy Running,
Jason

Finisher Medal NOT Received upon completion of 1/2 Marathon
Dear Organiser,
I would like to complain that I was not given my finisher medal even when I completed my run at 2hr 45min. As stated in the website and runner's info leaflet, all ½ marathon finishers who complete within the qualifying time of 3 hours would get finisher medal. I was rudely shocked when I was told " Medal sudah habis" (Medal is already finished) at the medal collection counter.
Many of my fellow runner friends also suffered the same fate. There were major breakdown in the control of medals. We found out that the medals were given indiscriminately to the 5km category earlier. They were not entitled for medals at the first place. Some of the students even tried to sell the medals for RM10 each. We tried to look for the person in-charge but the person tending the medal section didn't seem to care to give us the information.
I am very disappointed with the whole incident. The poor handling had robbed me the enjoyment of receiving the well-deserved medal after a long hard run. Many of us had traveled so far for this event. It could have been my perfect first running experience in Sarawak if not for this incident.
Suggestion for improvement:
Give medal IMMEDIATELY to runner upon completion at the finished line. Runner must present all checkpoint ribbons. Cross out bib with a marker pen indicating medal has been collected. I have seen this method works perfectly at other running events.
Awaiting your response.
Regards,
My Race Bib Number: CXXXX

Dear Mr....,
Thank you for writing to us re not receiving your finisher medal.
We are committed to send you your well deserved medal. Please give us some time to compile the list of runners who had missed out and we will made a fresh order from our supplier.
Thank you also for your valuable suggestions. We are indeed indebted to you for your participation and regret any area which had caused disappointments to you.
Yours sincerely,

Flying pig KLIM report
After 35km mark, my timer report 1 minute and 3 hour. I give myself the devil laugh keh keh keh…
Doing the 3.35 or even 3.30 is doable now to conclude my final marathon. All the tiredness seems to be gone & my engine can be roooooooom to finish line with turbo speed which I save it for last push.
Yaeah! Me & my big mouth, maybe I laugh too loud and the God of Run give me a click on my injury part that cause in CRIII, where I run like mad pig to get #3 & clock 3hr for 36.8km, just because tu AMBANK display a BIG packet & shine medal to attract my determination 2 fight all out run until shit drop race.
Less than 500meter I turbo my injury come & knock my door… Damn! Please do not make me a traffic police that have 2 stands there & direct traffic “Pigi, pigi, tarak apa tengok! Jalan cepat, Jalan!! Mau saman??!!”
The decision I make to push in final 17% is really a silly dump stupid idea. Now I even have to walk to complete the race… will I, should I, could I?? uhuk* want to cry….
But my fighting spirit come & rise back when I see 2 thai women look back at me. YUK*, really humiliate! Whole trip I can’t even see the 3 China Women, now 2 thai women look at me and smile?!
How can that happen? Cilaka dun care this will cause long term injury or go hospital I also must run, since run forward is really hard & I dun stop 4 medical one, so I turn backward & run, cis! It’s work, pain reduce, then run on left site, then right site… My helicopter way of running gets a marshal attention… I give him my dun-care face & say “Ballet, tak tau?” Well at least I make him a day…
The turning pig manages to catch up one of the thai, I run pass her with a “huh!” and continue to catch the second huh… damn the second one is really fast, I chase until I almost want to crawl the rest of the journey… Finally the last 100meter I manage to kentuk, I mean say huh! to her and finish my suffering race in 3h43m… slowest 7k
I ever run… since I know how 2 drink milk :p
I not even have the mood to submit my timing chip and straight go to medical booth to treat my injury, but when I saw the girls there, working so hard to please all those 7k fun run participant, I stuns! Those so call injured runners say buntut sakit lah, back sakit lah… and those girls have 2 even massage back & buntut to please them? I watch also I feel shame, yew! I just bite my teeth & my injury is nothing compares the “well treatment” that those girls get… what happen to this world, men seem to be like tofu and women are like steel… I treat my injured leg in ice pool with the conclusion have to do another 42k again sigh*

As the Big Day is about 7 days from to-day, just wanted to know whether it is justifiable for you to consider having the transport to Petra Jaya to collect Bibs on Sat. and to the Run on sunday to be stationed in Singgahsana Lodge as we have about close to 60 members staying there. You can on the other hand check the total number of Pacesetters Members staying there by calling Donald or Marina at tel: (082) 429277.
Please also let me know the Pick-up time for Sat. and Sunday!

****************
Dear Sonny,
YES, we will have FREE shuttle bus to transport you all to collect BIBs, inspect site etc on 24 & 25 March. And also on 26 March, from 4am onwards we will also be running shuttle services.
As you are staying in Singgahsana, you would need to walk to the HARBOUR VIEW HOTEL to catch the buses. HARBOUR VIEW is very close to Singgahsana, no worries... We will be updating our website to inform of the above arrangements.
Cheers, Fred Ting

What : Power Run
When : Sunday, 19th March 2006
Where : Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur
Distance : approx 10.7km
Some went back happily, but der most are not. Everyone thot 150th medals sub sub water, close eye oso can get, but this time not so lucky babe. This yrs quality of runners are high & solid compare to last yrs, dont know which jungle they all came from lah. Suddenly so many good runners wan hor? Yew!!
As for me leh, I dont really want to pia in this run wan. Alto 150th medals up for grap, it doesnt mean I can take it easy. My starting very der slow nia, until der drink station only I start to change gear. Cause I can see der whole stretch of Jln Duta full of vegetables. Which I think it is very dengerous, if I dont start to potong sayur lah. So from there onward, I only potong ppl, n make sure nobody potong me back. Haha!!
Der biggest upset from der Pm's is Alden, Ryan Mei Mei, Peng Peng, Rachel & Ah Ching. They come wit high hope, unfortunally luck is not on their side. I oso feel very upset for them u know!! Wat do to? Makan roti lor :-(

*******************
Hi, Rachel,
Poor Ronnie, kena marah and ketuk kau kau!! Actually he just wanted to praise the fast ones and encourage the slow ones to run faster mah.
Just to encourage Rachel, I finished my first ever marathon at 56 years old, after my retirement! I completed the KLIM 2005 with a dismal timing of 5:45:33 but a I felt great. To be at the starting line is something but to be able to finish a marathon is a real achievement. The feeling was just unbelievable -- on top of the world -- the same feeling I had when I reached the top of Mount Kinabalu and got a Millinium certificate...
So Rachel, start training now. :)
Cheers, SH :))
Back to Basics – KLIM 2006
Having participated in the full marathon and several 10K in previous KLIM events, I decided to signed up for the 21K this year. I was not targeting to break any records as my training was only minimal and I reckon I could complete it within the specified time frame. From the onset, I had already decided to run at an easy pace and enjoy the scenery.
While waiting inside the enclosure for the start of the event, the Powerbar booth caught my attention and I thought that I had better equipped myself with a packet of Powergel for that energy boost to compensate for my inadequate training. I requested the help my friend, Sok Ying who has not yet been confined in the enclosure to get me one.
5K into the race, there was a water station where I consumed the packet of Powergel which I purchased earlier. When I reached the next station probably at the 7.5K mark, I was rather amazed that there was no water served at a sponging station as usually there would be. Some runners were so desperate that they resorted to drinking the water from the sponge and some even drank from what was balance in the discarded bottles on the roadside. It was such a pitiful sight. I just swallowed whatever saliva I could generate to dampen my throat. I consoled myself that there will be water supply in the next station. About 100meters before reaching the 10K water station, some Powerbar staff was handing out packets of Powergel. I was glad yet worried about the water supply as the gel was a thick and sticky substance to swallow. I almost consumed it but my 6th sense told me that I had better wait till I reach the water station before consuming it lest there is no water again. True enough when I reached the 10K water station, the officials said the water supply has finished. I was baffled. Water is such a basic and crucial commodity especially in long distance running. It was disappointing that runners gave their support by participating in the event but get this type of poor treatment. Runners should not have to worry about inadequate water and carry their own supply. That’s not an international event anymore. Furthermore, runners could have ended up sick drinking unboiled water from the sponge or even die from dehydration.
As I reached the last 150 metres towards the end, I noticed a DBKL van cruising alongside the runners. I thought it was not in the good interest of the runners as usually most runners would turbo towards the finishing line.
Walking back to my car, I could hear the wailing sirens of the ambulance and I surmised that some of the casualties are cases of dehydration.
Hopefully in future, the KLIM organizers could improve on the following:
1. Water supply should be abundant at both refreshment and sponging stations
2. Powergel distribution should be made known in the leaflet
3. Finishing area should be restricted from passing vehicles.
4. Distance markers should be put at every 2K.

About der Race...
It was truly high explosive turbo race, from start oredi sprint like mad cow. After 4km I only manage to potong Chen Fong Fong, wahlau this mad Fong Fong really can pia wan. Eventho 1 wks after der marathon, he still hv plenty of energy. After potong Fong2, another hard battle ahead of me. Der biggest battle is der hardcore hill, there are so many hills to tackle. Whenever there is uphill, I can potong sayur. but when come to downhill, kena potong balik. That my weekness lor.
Wit 1km left to finish, Pm21 was standing there to support n checking my position. "Quickly, u r no. 23rd" shout by Pm21. I try as hard as I could, but still kenot close der gap to top 20th placing. Anyway, I know there wasnt any chance I can get into top 20th, so i no sad lor. Coz I didnt set any target mah, hahaha!!
