Subang Jaya 5 star vs Bidor 4 star

I still kenot decided where to go, both oso I like. But I can see that most of der Pm's are heading for north, only left is Kelvin, Ryan, SJ & Justin Lee stay on course for subang. Subang is one of der most popular race in selangor, but I very sad coz so less PM's taking part. I think der main reason is der medals, coz only top 100th medals are up for grab in men open category. Unlike der Bidor, finishes medal for every runner regardless fast or slow. And sumore Bidor run is organise by runners of der runners club, subang is only organise by those no spirit goverment ppl. Hmmm, after writting this report. I know where shall I head too liao...

p/s, any other Pm's going for subang beside der name i mention above?

Introducing der Pacemaker 41 @ Phyllis Kok

Running Forever!

Since young, running has become one of my hobbies. There was a time when becoming a marathon runner was the farthest thing from my mind. Runners were, or so I thought, a lost group of tortured souls with tortured soles, achy muscles, and creaky knees. They were as best I could tell from the safe distance I kept from all matters requiring movement either pain addicts or fools. If they were the former they were to be pitied. If they were the latter, they were to be unmercifully mocked.

Most of the time I was running leisurely around my living place until I met up with one of the members from OX group in a swimming session 3 years ago. This is where I got a chance to involve in the outdoor activities like cycling, hiking and rocks climbing before I did something I never thought I could do. I ran my first marathon in 2004 with the motivation from the OX gang but without much training. Everyone has their first time and with that my life changed.

I joined the pacesetter members for the 10km or 21km training in Lake Garden every Sunday. Weekend is always the day I am looking forward in a week.

I loved the morning runs, starting out in the pitch dark, praying for firm footing and deliverance from danger. Due to we started so early and were finished before most of the civilization was brewing coffee, the running had a surreal quality to it.

I'm lucky to have some great friends as my running partners. They created my training program and led me through it. I never wanted to know much, not the distance or pace, none of it - a welcome escape from the pressures of too many other decisions. During weekend, I met them at the appointed hour and put one foot in front of the other until they told me I was done.

Like most beginning runners, I ran too much too soon. I ran too fast and too far. I discovered what I was running from. I was running from where I had been, where I was, and where I was headed. But like so many runners, no matter how far or how fast I ran, I always ended up right where I had started, with myself.

It's an odd thing, when your body says no and your mind and your spirit say yes. It's frightening, empowering, clarifying and even beautiful, all at once. It was the past year of my life, shortened into a span of 42km. It was the culmination of experiences, the knowledge that my body can be pushed past its breaking point, just like my passion and determination in running.

My running shoes had become giant erasers on my feet. Each foot strike wiped away the memory of some earlier indiscretion or failure. Each new pair of running shoes carried the potential of unlocking some secret place. Each pair of worn-out running shoes carried the scars of a healing soul.

It was more than a novice athletic achievement, a journey of friendship, the healing power of sport, and the confidence of achieving a goal. It was a reminder that with good company and hard work, a regular people can do something special.

Running is both a reward and an education, a chance to learn something about a new community and renew myself for the job ahead. The wisdom, tears, and laughter we shared gave me an insight and appreciation for my friends that I have not had since I was in college. It is a good thing too because come to race day, I ended up needing these friends more profoundly than I expected. Thanks mates!

I have seen life as a non-runner and as a runner. I can tell you with complete assurance that I’ve chosen, and will continue to choose, running. Without running, there are no runners and I have learned that a runner is everything I hope to be.

Poor handicap pig 4 speed

Posted by Picasa Poor handicap pig 4 speed

After check the saucony through out plus influence Jeremy and Daniel to buy each one each saucony, I decide skip 2day train, as sky is in deep dark unable to see the twinkle star.

But the invitation from Jeremy, the speed train master, cannot be resist by my hunger of study new method. So I quickly change in the dark, and jump 2 try out the 6 X 600meter speed train.

The guy is really serious in training, not like me only trying to fool around when train, totally different character!

That why after the 1st lap he express out he really don’t happy with my performance, he say every time he run around 1m55 for the 600m and I am over 2m on the same course.

His piss off really make me scare and pay attention on his instruction, because he is really outsize me a lot.

I have try the 2nd course, the 3rd the 4th and 5th, with 1.5min break in between , all is out of 2m and the guy again and again insist me to deep under 2m on the course, or else have to do more under the damn haze!

I really want to cry and regret to join this fella on such a crazy training method, I request 2m break after the 5th trial, tie really hard on my shoe and do frog bump to harden the thigh, now I am ready.

Once he say GO, I have take the lead, by his surprise, I push really hard, but unfortunately the thigh feel sore in the last 50meter, and the giant fella overtake me. So upset by this, but on the other hand the timing for me is 1m53s, yeah! I can go home lioa… and he needs me to do this for 2 month to see the real effect in race, and can’t be done in the race week. Hah?? My maiden of all run is around corner and ask me to take a two month train?! No way, and I don’t think I am the material for such crazy work out, I had tried but I was unable to adapt it, maybe you people try out.

Regards,
Poor Handicap Pig 4 speed.

Pig 4 Speed,

I am training for 600m too. Although the timing is not as crazy as that la but then there are positive effects from the 600m. I felt that it forced me to 'control' my speed better because the distance is 200m longer than the usual 400m lap. The next thing was that I felt stronger coming out from this training. Maybe you shoudl try?

Introducing der Pacemaker 42 aka CCube

How It All Began by C.Choi

It was year 1984 when I just found a job with a local construction firm as an IT executive. And before that I working as a part-time storekeeper for about 9 months with a locally incorporated Dutch organization that distribute a range of products ranging from electrical goods, toiletries, hard liquor, etc, etc. At this workplace was where I ate a lot and drank hard liquor almost every alternate day. Late nights were a norm because I went out doing sales entertainment with the salesman. My body grew horizontally day after day, and my stomach was blotting out. My physical fitness was way down the drain and I feel lazy all the time.

My Training Ground

At the new workplace, I still continue to hangout with my old friends from the previous company where I worked. My new colleagues in the new organization were teasing me about my physique and after a while I just cannot take it anymore. And that was when I decided to change my lifestyle and the way I eat. Exercise was on top of my mind at that time and I decided to start off by jogging. The Ipoh Polo Ground was where my training started and without fail everyday after work, I will be there doing my laps. It was tough and I still remembered I can only run for about 400m in my first few attempts and then I had to walk. Day after day, laps after laps, my endurance started to build up and eventually I can run comfortably in distance of around 3KM without stopping and walk.

As I frequent the ground, I got to make friends with those regulars who are marathon runners. I got guidance from them in terms of running technics, how to improve my endurance and run longer without stopping. Soon, I was able to run 5KM without stopping and pace myself without burning out easily. And that was the break where I have not turn back, continue to get into the running habit and started to participate in 10KM races and then onto half marathons.

The Big Day

My big day came when my fellow running mates were persuading and giving me encouragement to give a shot at the 42KM marathon. I accepted the challenge and train very hard for almost 4 months to prepare for the marathon. And it was the 1st KL International Marathon 85 dated 25 Mar 1985 that I am giving a shot at. I was extremely excited about my maiden marathon race but eventually lack of experience, the tough course and the hot weather beats me. I experienced cramp after running three quarter of the race ie at the 30+km, and the heat starts to get into me. I had to sit by the pavement to get assistance/aid from the St. John’s team and the last 10km-12km was a long and hard fought journey.

As I finally ran (limping and almost to the speed of walking) into Stadium Merdeka where the finishing line is, I heard loud cheers from my group of running buddies who finished the race earlier shouting encouraging comments like “PUSH ON, PUSH ON”, “GREAT TO SEE YOU HERE”, “I KNOW YOU CAN MAKE IT”, etc. And finally I crossed the line clinching my fist on both hands, raising high up in the air with the electronic clock showing 5h 38m.

I HAVE TRAINED TO BE A MARATHON RUNNER NOW.

Never Look Back

From that day onwards I never look back and continued to train harder together with my group of running buddies. I tackled races after races, and my timing in running 10KM, 21KM and 42KM races keep improving gradually. And with all these running, my physique got trimmer and the excess fat in my body were completely gone. I went for races in places like Perak, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, and Singapore, running an average of 5 half marathons and 2 marathons a year. Year 1986 was also the year that I am migrating to the big city of Kuala Lumpur because of my transfer to the HQ of the company that I am working for. And it was a sad farewell that I had to part ways with my running buddies in Ipoh where they have given me all the help, guidance and encouragement to what and where I am.

My PR year

When in KL, I continued to run and stumbled upon a club called
Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia (PACM). I joined as a member and was actively participating in all activities organized by the club, and that is where I met Munning (the current President of the club) and we became running buddies. During that time, the club does not have a big number of membership and our get-together are mostly during Sunday runs and after that adjourned to the market along Petaling Street for breakfast.

The year 1987 was the most memorable year throughout my running career (till today) as an amateur runner. This was the year I achieved my PR for both 21KM and 42KM races. I ran the Ipoh Half Marathon on 28 Mar 1987 clocking 1h 27m, and later in the year in September ran the MAS Penang International Marathon crossing the finishing line in a time of 3h 31m.

Charity run campaign

After my PR and doing more runs after that, the Pacesetters decided to organize a charity run in the KL International Marathon 1988. This charity event was targeted towards the National Society of The Blind, and each runner had to collect donation/sponsorship of RM1.000 in order to be part of the charity running team. The campaign was very successful and all the members of the campaign managed to raise the funds for the event. It was also the year 1988 that I started engaging into mountain trekking/climbing as an alternative activity besides running, and my first climb was to tackle Mount Kinabalu – summit at 4095m.

A break too long

I brokeaway or you can called it retired from running (hanging up my rubber trainers) in year 1990 when I decided to start a family and pay more attention to my wife and new born daughter. It was a hard decision that I had to make in order to be closer to my wife and new born daughter. The option to keep fit during that time was to engage into playing badminton which does not consume too much of time as compare to running especially competitive running (the time taken to maintain and run semi-competitively in races)

This was a long break from running where I did not even put on my rubber trainers to run in any tracks or parks. Lake Gardens is not in my list and marathon is an alien sporting event to me. Running is not a sporting activity that I want to engage in and had no second thoughts about it even though I was aggressively into it during the 80’s.

Comeback Kid

In year 2005 – after a 15 years break since my last marathon, I decided to make a turn around and started to seriously think about getting back into the running circle. One of the key motivations was to trim down my body physique (although it was not as bad as compare to 1985) and enhance my physical fitness. With my past running experience behind me, it didn’t take too long to get myself back on the road and in no time I was training to compete in my first 21KM race after a long 15 years break. Putrajaya Half Marathon on Sept 2005 was the race I am getting into and my expectation of myself in doing well is just below average. My aim was to finish the race comfortably without suffering and injuring myself. I completed the race in 2h 20m, nothing to shout about but a satisfying run considering the long break that I had.

Catching up

From this juncture onwards, I know there is a lot of catching up to do. It will never be the same as the younger years. I can never run a sub 1h 30m half marathon and never will I be able to run a 3h 31m full marathon. But that is not my biggest concern, because all I wanted now is to be able to run comfortably and enjoy each race that I compete. The golden QUESTION that I asked myself is that do I want to attempt a 42KM full marathon again. This is still a question that ponders upon me till now, where I know I need lots of motivations for me to do that. What’s in it for me. Not that I had never run a marathon before, but I had ran many, many of them. But the motivation factor here is to give myself another challenge in life as if I had never run in a marathon before. This will probably give me that extra push and motivate me to get into it again, after 15 years.

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD…………….

Cbox pop ups

Dear visitors, kindly take note that we have received a few messages from our friends advising us that they have been faced with constant Advertisment pop ups whenever they visit this blog. After further investigation we have managed to identify that these pop ups are actually being generated by the chatbox which is a free 'hosted script' thus not giving us any control to stop them.

Please rest assured that aside from it being a nuisance, these pop ups do not form any serious threat to your computer. You are adviced to please close the windows should they appear. However most of us do not have this problem since we have updated security applications on our systems which block these irritating pop ups.

For those of you who are unable to install the latest security applications, perhaps due to company policy or some other reason, you could always use the Mozilla Firefox browser instead of Internet Explorer as it comes with a built in pop up blocking function. You can download Firefox from this link http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/.

Lastly we all agree that having a chatbox in this site has been very inspiring for many of us. We started initially with the Hollabox which has since been discontinued and then moved on with a few different free messengers before finally using the Cbox. Due to all these messengers being free, we have had problems with reliability from time to time and find that the Cbox has had a higher uptime when compared to other messengers that we have tried.

We also find that the Cbox has a fast response time in posting messages and is quite user friendly. Should you have any suggestions on any other known javascript messengers which have similar features and are just as "reliable", please let us know so that we can evaluate our options and make a final decision on whether to stick with the Cbox or to switch to something else. Thank you!

Pacemakers Network Run by DK (PM4)

Yesterday morning the Pacemakers once again organised a very fun and successful event. This time round it was the Pacemakers Network Run held at Lake Gardens KL featuring a 6 lap (13.8km) run for the men and 2 lap (4.6km) run for the women.

There were over 40 participants registered. Some volunteers including me had run the route a few days before the race. I had the privelage of flagging of the race since Rohaizad is still not back from Pakistan yet. Once the race was started just after 7.15am it was a mad dash with runners trying to find a comfortable pace so they could last the 6 laps.

I was in charge of the checkpoint for two categories... the mens 29 and below and the mens 35 to 39. The other volunteers working with me were Phyllis, SJ, Rachel and Tey. This was my first time being a volunteer and it was quite fun actually. I shall do it again perhaps in some events organised by Pacesetters in the future.

I had also setup my camera on a tripod and was multitasking by snapping photos while marking the number of laps each runner had finished. Despite the tripod many shots turned out blur since I hadn't really tried my camera in sports events or action shots before. I must learn how to use the sports mode and even try the manual modes since the model I use comes with full manual functions.

After the run, I was also privelaged to be selected to give away the medals and the trophies to the participants. Overall I must say it was a really successful event thanks to all the participants, volunteers and especially our dear captain Ronnie. I'm sure there will be many equally successful or even better events we can look forward to in the future!

Der_Pacemakers' Prayer

The last couple of weeks have seen many disruptions to the hardworking runner's schedule. Training plans were waylaid firstly by heavy rains and then the haze. In order that this Sunday's Alibaba Run will proceed as planned, so that all the hardwork put in are not wasted, let's all pray to the "powers that be" whatever your faith is.

Pacemakers Really Cinya Pia Habis - Habisan Wan!

What : KLAVA Friendship Relay
When : 8th October 2006
Where : Kuala Selangor Nature Park, Selangor DE
Actual Distance : 1.952km
Format : 3 runners per team, total 7 teams
PM's Team : Ronnie See - Pm1, KH Chen - Pm8 & Ryan CM - Pm17
Medal : All finishes
Trophy : Only Champion!

der day before tomoro
Lucky Ryan agree to over night at my place, bcoz dont want him to be so tired from Bangi to Kepong, then kepong to k.sgor. And bcoz he so meow meow shy, I oso ask Ah Loong to company him loh. So both of them 1 night sleep n stand together at my house. All went to bed at 1pm, light off *poof*

der Pia Day
5.40am we depart from house to meet Chen Fong Fong at 1U, our meeting time is 6am. As usual lah, he late again. So hor, he drive like ambulance loh. So we reach K.sgor at 7.05am, n some of der runners oredi arrived as early as us liao.

Most of der teams are from KLAVA, n we are der only outsider dare to take der challenge, cinya jialat wan. Klava send one of their super elite team to pia wit der pacemakers. As usual chen fong fong very der kan cheong liao, bcoz under Klava rules n regulation. Fast runner must pia first, follow by 2nd best n der slowest will take der last hurdle. Initially our plan is Chen, Ryan then only me wan. Bcoz of der rules, so I pia 1st, follow by Ryan n Chen pia for der last kopek. Reason chen run der last heat is bcoz he not fully fit n no training due to overtime n cilaka haze, that why he no confident to take der 2nd baton.

Titanic Battle #1
After all der briefing n we are ready to rock kau-kau lat. Me as der 1st runner, cinya pressure wan. Eat bubur or nasi is all depend on me first. So at 7.45am, race officially started. So I oredi turbo kau-kau lat, tot can lead from start until finish wan. TNS after 400m kena potong sayur kau-kau lat by Klava super team, I couldnt believe it, I can even get close to his bontot. I really cinya tired
liao, bcoz der surface is very hard to run, all der 1.952km is cover by grass. No tar road, no paver road, no hill road, only grass - cinya unbelievable! Bcoz I kenot get close to der Klava team, I hold on my gap make sure not losing too much distance, else later Ryan very hard to chase. Klava 1st runner cross der line in at 6min 55s, damn I was 25sec off der gap.

Titanic Battle #2
Time for Ryan Mei Mei to kan cheong liao, after get der baton from me. I can see mei mei really under pressure, as me n fong fong cinya kan cheong waiting for his arrival. After 6mins plus, can hear runners shouting liao. Fullymeow, der Klava team still in der lead. But cinya cinya unbelivable, Ryan was juz 20m to 30m behind der leader nia. And this will leave der tough task for fong fong to finish it, Ryan cross der line in 7min 50sec, n now we're jus 15sec behind der leader!
