"Many organizer only know how to organize but never put their self into the shoes of the runners. More disappointed where the organzer itself is not an athlete and they never know what is 'true achievement in sports actually'. For me sports is not about winning or losing. It's more about : Personal commitement and achievment. Are U dare to do it and finish it. And how's your improvement. Not a different between the First and the Last, both crossing the starting and finishing line. Remember the proverbs " It's not the size of the dog in the fight, But the size of the fight in the dog".

Larian perpaduan---By Chen

It was 9am plus, only then the organizer asks runners assembly in start point. Although I the only the shortest yellow banana among the 8 black beans in men open, I don’t feel any pressure, as the medal sure will be in my pocket. Only my 2 Indian friends are in numerous nerves as they want the cash prize.

A few times organizer stares at me with funny look, I think they puzzle how come a china apek come to a race organize by MIC, participate 99% by Indian, which uses tamil and malay as the announce language.

I run my own pace after the flag off; I want to avoid the burn out effect specially run under skull burning hot sun, which cause me to be the last one.

The position is still okay for me, although I forget if I did finish last in any race before. Then situation force my honeymoon pace to be rewrite, the annoying accompany by traffic police is really frustrated; the top group got a traffic police ascot, while the last one also have. I give a ‘please go away face’ to the guy, but he still make big motor sound and siren on his big bike to gain attention, from me and also from people surround.

This really uneasy my mind as I want to stay invincible; and only can think of one solution, that is not to be the last runner.

I push myself until I can feel the pain on thigh, lucky by now I can see the second last runner, and I just patient pace with the guy as now I am not alone.

My chance come when I see the first fly over, which I push that guy until he run up hill and cause hear beat uneven and drop out from his constant pace, good, now I even can see another 2 guys and the annoying officer is way behind me already, what a release!

My confidence and form come, and 2 more runners I manage to split over far far away.

I very comfortable in number 6, after I see how tough are the top 5 peoples fight for top 3 money. They all just like crazy run wild gorillas that punching each other, like blood hungry lion biting each other and like a out of control bull that knocking each other.

After seeing so many blood and bone cracking sound from the group of 5 beasts, I slowly slow down my pace n pull away from the group, in case they see the gentle little pig and think is a predator.

Although I can feel the sun burn on my hair, the smelly car oil in the air while passing by the light industrial area, and the comfortable villagers that relax on a cold ice tea, I still satisfy on this run, as I come out not last, and no need to injure myself in the top group.

But the prize ceremony takes an hour plus to complete and I am bombastic with questions by more than 3 Indian runners and organizer, man, am I look that weak and not capable to come out as #6 in an all black race?

Der Most Irritating Runner

Warning 2u!
If u are racing wit this runner bib ****, better watch out.
Whenever u are getting close to his a$$, he will sure sprint like mad cow. And der worst part is, when u oredi ahead of him liao hor, he will sure pia wit full force to overtake u and suddenly slow down or tekean break infront of you. Cinya amkan! Making der pacing go kelam kabut. This is not der 1st time I see him do like that liao, many many races oso like that wan. I still remember der worst I ever had is last yrs GE30K, running behind his buntot for almost 30mins like that. Cinya beh tahan, that why I run until pancit kau-kau lat bcoz of irritating pace. This yrs I saw him at GE30K again at 2k mark, this time I make der smart move. Quickly turbo fast fast when he oredi slow down der pacing, wit that he was never in my sight anymore.

If u dont believe wat I hv say is truth, or maybe u think i juz talk kok nia. U can refer to John Tan, he oso hv der same TNS problem.

Easy Recovery Run

Friday Night...
Got sms msg from Naresh Pm37, inform me there was a race at subang jaya this coming sunday. Too bad I'm not in a shape, leg muscle still very tight. So I forward der msg to MedalFaceMan Chen Pong Pong, immediately he asking me for Naresh contact number. Hahaha...

Sunday Morning...
Reach bkt aman at 6.20am, glad to hv Saiful, Adam, Khoo Yit Kiat & CK Ang as a pacer. So we started our run at 6.32am, as usual doing der TKP (talk-kok-pace) n Khoo lead all der way b4 last 100m was potong sayur by Adam. I was der last one reach hartamas among der 4 of us, timing show 52m 35s. Adam timing was 52m 02s, follow by Khoo N Saiful at 52m 12s, CK Ang ran out of gas liao. 2mins break, bcoz I need to pangsai, hehehe....

After settle everthing liao, we battle for der 2nd part. Again Khoo lead der pack, Saiful n Adam oso follow very der tight. After der Jln Duta flyover, Khoo pancit liao. Hmmm, I think der pace too fast hor? Anyway I manage to wollap 1 cup of water which was provided for der Chan Chee Seng group runners, after drink feeling cinya fresh liao. Wit 5k to go, I start to tekan der pace a bit faster. Saiful n Adam oso follow very der tight, usually I never beaten by any runners b4 at der Tajini hill. So damn shocking that Saiful juz sayur me so easily at der hilly part, cinya beh tahan, so I tekan again at der mahameru flyover part. Coz that site oso quite hilly oso, Saiful oso follow very closely, Adam was 50m behind. Wit 3k to go, I tekan very hard again. Finally a bit relief, Saiful was not so close to me liao. Wit 2k to go, suddenly Adam come from behind. Kan Nee Neh! I hv to tekan again, press my turbo until last 500m which Adam kenot follow liao, then only I slow down. Lucky he never chase up, else I could hv been in red light liao. Lucky can handle der pressure.. phew!

Der Result :
1' 38.14s - Ronnie See (2nd 10K - 45:39)
1' 38.34s - Adam Loh (45:58)
1' 39.26s - Saiful Azri (46:59)
0' 00.00s - Khoo Yit Kiat (pancit liao!)

A Friend Writes To You

DK
I admit that I was in 2 minds to email you but after thinking for 2 days (see I really think about you!) I thought that I can't be considered a friend if I don't do it. Also I'd have failed to live up to the adage of runners helping runners if I don't write you. Therefore here's this mail written in all frankness and I think I speak the same as your other running kakis. So please don't be upset and if I somehow come across as harsh, please pardon my writing.

I have to admit that you're not the only one disappointed with your results. I was curious as to the reason why you took 2 bars which I think led to the start of the problems. In any case what's done is done. Recognize the mistake but never dwell on it. Move on.

As corny it may sound, what didn't kill us will make us stronger and I think it's generally true. It's often how one reacts to setbacks that one becomes the wiser for it. I don't doubt that you can bounce back or run much faster and I'm sure you know that fact too. Your improvements over the Hartamas route is proof that you're already a better runner. Once you've built up the experience and patience, results will just improve (not everytime but definitely on the upward trend).

Old fashion wisdom always hold true for us (gifted ones like CB Leow and Chen don't count).

o Never try new food/techniques/shoes in a race.
o Respect and train the distance. Anything over 20K can do lots to the underprepared and performances under 20K can't be used to gauge the performances over 20K.
o Patience. In terms of training and strategies.
o Confidence. This quality is gained after ingesting the above 3 points,

Your decision to stay away from 30K and the marathon is not the answer. I'm one who believes that the more I fail at a distance, the more I want to succeed in it. Neither should you withdraw into a shell. You have friends who are very supportive of you and that's your source of inspiration to bouncing back. So come back running and of course to the Shoutbox when you can. Paula Radcliffe failed big time through a combination of sickness and the weight of expectations in Athens. But she bounced back in style by winning New York just 3 months after that. You can do that too.

Great Eastern PACM 30K Run - Race Report

Before I Happy like a Lan (Cock)
I was stranded in der toilet for almost 10mins, der race is about to start liao. I was so kan cheong, time oredi 5'59.30 mean I only hv 30s to shiet everything out. And yes indeed, timing ngam ngam hoe. I shiet everything out in 25s nia, a world record for me. Once out of der toilet, I heard a loud noice... Bang!! Der race officially start, Kan-Nee-Neh-Lampah! I was speeding off like mad cow. Sumore start from der back row, hv to run zig-zag way to avoid der runners. Cinya der suffering, after a few distance liao. I manage to stay close behind Chen Fong Fong n Lai Fong Sang, so I juz follow Chen pace to relax myself after der pia in der begining. After 6km saw Jeremy liao, he is my top list sayur. So I say to Jeremy, "Come on let pia together" He say still too early, har?? So I dont borther him lah, take this opportunity to built der gap n stay away from him. Surprisngly Saiful der Pm45 was infront of me, I potong him at 10k mark. But Chen Fong2 still keep me pressure.

Complete my 11km at 51'28, mean out of der tugu trafik light. Suddenly I turn around, kenot see Chen liao. Hmmm, wat is he up to ahh? Dont care lah, continue my sayur pace. That mean der only Pm's left for me to sayur is Gunaselan der Pm39, he still running strong. Honestly I must to thanks to one of der Klang Pacer veteran runner, I hv him as my pacer thru out der whole run, else sure boring like hell. After 15km at der hilly part (goverment ofis) saw Guna walking liao, so I sayur him lah. But der Klang pacer runner kenot keep up der pace wit me liao, so I pia alone loh. After reaching der petronas u-turn, aiya! forgot to press my split time. Stop for a while, drink n do some stretching, coz muscle cinya tight liao. Continue my run, saw many runners at opposite site was so close to me oso. Hmmm, I saw Guna, John, Saiful in der leading pack. But where is Chen ahh? Still keep me pressure.

Happy like a Lan
Before reaching der to finishing line, wit 4km to go. I oredi know my dream of achieving sub 2'30 is reachable, from there on. I turbo kau-kau lat, der only sayur I can see is Abu cousin. Abu cousin is on der top speed runner, if u see how he run. Is really amazing, der way he lift up der leg cinya high high wan. I manage to cought up wit him wit 1.5k to go, n give him some word of encourgement. Say to him "come on, let's turbo together", but he seem like in der red light liao. From there, I turbo solo all der way to finishing line. And of course, I will turn around make sure Chen Fong Fong is
not near my buntot. Wit juz a few meter to finish, I saw Cb Leow. Actually I hv der chance to potong him, but I dont want. Bcoz I want to hv a nice photos finish mah, hahaha 1st time u see me so sporting hor? Quickly go n buy Beh Pioh (4D). Anyway, I oredi achieve my target liao. To beat CB Leow or not, it doesnt matter anymore liao. Hahaha.... (insert talk kok)

Conclusion:
Cinya happy, improve 13mins from last yrs timing. And manage to beat all der top seeded runners in my sayur list. Ie.. Jeremy Sarus, Chen Fong Fong, Ben Swee from Spore, John Tan & Kenny Tham. Except for CB Leow, full respect to him. He still remain one of der best long distance runner in der malaysia. hahaha!!!

Running full marathon for me? I still dont hv experience yet, bcoz of my patient mah. I always want to pia wan in race, for marathon is a damn long journey. No play play, respect der TNS distance.

Lets begin 2007 with a BANG!!!

Der Pacemakers Network is moving into the next Paradigm. Because the group had grown from strength to strength over the years (since year "2004" with 15 members) to 45 members todate, we have decided to commemorate this success by having an official PM vest of our own. We will use the PM vest as the official race attire in all races that der PM participate. This initiatives not only make us a network of our own (within the Pacesetters) but also a group of people that promote running as a form of healthy activities.

The vest will have Der Pacemakers wording printed on the front, and also a logo of a partial sponsor (Fortune 500 company) at the back, currently under negotiation. On top of that, we have also gotten Saucony to resell the vest to us at a highly discounted price. We are estimating that the cost of the vest to be in the range of RM15-RM20.

With this new year initiatives, I would like to seek your support in purchasing the vest. I hope the cost of the vest is not a big burden to you, but on a positive note will bring us closer as a network of runners and get recognised in the running community be it in Malaysia and overseas. Appreciate your fullest support to make this happen for 2007.

My 2nd GE30K Pratice Run

Wit one more wks to GE30K, n I was advice by John Tan not to do another 30K. Due to, too close to der race oredi, so my plan is to stick to 25k nia. Today I hv many pacer, Lai Prefontaine, Kenny Tham (phlegm) & Adam Taylor Hicks. As usual, Prefontaine oredi pia like rocket liao in der begining. Me, Kenny Tham & Taylor Hicks stick together as one group. Everytime run wit Kenny, our pace is call "Talking Pace" Kenny talk kok from start until finish, n he say this is part of our training too, he is really amazing. Before 1.5km to hartamas petrol station, Prefontaine oredi in red light liao. Manage to catch up wit him, this is bcoz he is still under fever, n milage oso drop, we manage to finish together for der 9.9k at 50mins plus. Surprisingly Tony Quay was there to volunteer for water station, I hv a cup of two, then went to pangsai n then continue my 2nd part of my run. Thank You Tony, really appreciate it!

On return back, only left Me, Kenny & Taylor Hicks in der running. Prefontaine is no where to be seen liao. Taylor oredi back to his old form liao, so Prefontaine better watch out ya. Wit 1.2km to bkt aman, saw Tony again. Me n Kenny drink 2 more cup again, bcoz cinya thristy. But Taylor continue running, so this mean he only want to run 20k nia. That left only Me & Kenny for der 25k run, I keep asking Kenny "Are U ok?" He say OK! bcoz I dont want to run der last 5km alone leh, cinya boring n sumore is getting hot liao.

Going into der Lake Garden loop, Rachel oredi waiting for us liao. Again we hv a water station stop, drink n continue for der 2 loops. After coming out from der loop, Kenny turn on his turbo. Try to keep close to him, but his getting faster n faster. And he finish it very strongly ahead of me by 10 sec. Wat a good run wit Kenny Tham, I really enjoy it!!

For der GE30K, I will watch out for this 6 fellas. They are my close arch rival as follow:
1) Jeremy, der favourite
2) Ben Swee, der dark horse
3) CB Leow, der natural runner
4) Chen Fong Fong, der bar tender
5) John Tan, der underdog
6) Kenny Tham, der runner who beat me today

All this 6 runners has beaten me b4, this time I want to turn der table n chair onto them. Or anything below sub 2'30 it will be a bonus to me regardless who beat me lah. Or whichever come first lah, wakakakaka....!!

Pacemaker new vest !!!

Ambank KLIM 2007 new starting time !!

ZUL DER PACEMAKERS #43...RUNNING FREE..!

First of all, special thanks to Pm1 because on 15 Nov 06, he invited me to join the Pacemakers Network’s gang. I was quite happy to receive that invitation.

I wanted to write the profile report immediately, but the time was not permitted, I was quite busy at work, busy with my kids and to be frank, I was quite lazy too, and it took me almost 2 month to complete this report. Hopefully, Pm1 is not mad at me..sorry ya!

The Background..

I was born on 22 March 1971 in Segamat, Johor. Married with a beautiful lady, Ina and have 4 lovely kids, Ashraff (10), Ashmann (7), Ashryll (5) and Ashrynn (2). My home is in Precint 11, Putrajaya and working as an auditor at Seri Kembangan. My weight is around 63 kg and my height is 167 cm.

I was quite active in sport during the school days, especially in running, and my favorite distances were 200 m, 800 m and cross country (below 5K). However, during my university years everything was slowing down except playing tennis regularly with my friends.

On 5 September 1994, started working as an auditor at Hulu Kelang, KL. This was my first job and the only one until now, quite loyal huh! But now, I am actively looking for a new job, searching for a company that can offer me a better salary package.

The Why..

During my entire working years (before 2002), I was not active at all and I could say it was almost zero exercise. My weight kept increasing from 60 kg to the max of around 75 kg.

On 22 April 2002, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and moderate hypertension (blood pressure - BP), and the result really shocked me. The doctor urged me to do regular exercise at least 4 times per week, 30 minutes per session, and at that time, it sound very tough for me to do it.

As a start, I went to the gym at my office for about 2 to 3 times per week. I ran on the treadmill for a max of 2 to 3 km, cycling for few minutes and then, performed a body workout. However, my cholesterol level and my BP were up and down, and few times the doctor prescribed me the medicines but I refused to take it. So stubborn!!

So happened in July 2005, my son got one free entry for parent to participate in his school’s 5 km jogathon, so I said why not! The jogathon was quite enjoyable but also suffering, because I never ran 5 km before and the longest distance I ran was 3 km. During the ran, I forgot to set the timing and my position was number 6 but the last position to get the prize was number 5. My first ran already ‘sapu lantai’..haha..

The next race was Putrajaya Half Marathon on 11 September 2005 and I registered for 10 km run. This was the most suffering ran, the first half of the ran was quite ok, ran around 6.00 min pace, but for the second half, I ran like ‘kura-kura’ pace, even people who were walking could easily ‘potong sayur’ me. My timing was 1hr 10 min 30 sec.

Started from 10K at Putrajaya, I felt very good after each ran, running around the energetic participant, which motivated me to run further and further until the half marathon. During the races, I met many good runners especially from PM’s gang, which I learned a lot about running from them. I also learned about the technical side of running by reading books, magazines and via internet. I started writing my training log since November 2005 and it progressed and improved along the way.

However, my main purpose of running is still remain the same since the beginning, it is for the benefits of my health, especially to control my cholesterol and BP to a normal level. As at now, everything is under control and I am quite happy of the result.

The Progress & Challenges..

All information related to my running activities, training and races can be found at http://www.runner.hitouch2u.com. This website is for my OWN used ONLY, but I am willing to share the information with all the fellow runners.

Most of my training, I had done it on the treadmill during the lunch break, and I could say approximately 70% of the total mileage per week. Everybody said that running on the treadmill is so damn bored! and I agree with that..haha.. but I had no choice, that is the only time and place available for me to do the training during the weekdays. However, if I had a free time in the morning before going to work, I went for a quick run at Kompleks Sukan Bangi or Taman Putra Perdana (TPP) at Putrajaya. During the weekend, my long run or LSD was usually done at TPP or around the Putrajaya.

My major challenge is time. Working as an auditor occupies most of my time at the office and sometimes require staying back, so time for blogging and chatting are quite limited. Please do understand that is why my report writing was quite slow..haha.. During the weekend, most of my times are spent with the family and sometimes it is difficult for me to slot in the time for running, because for me, my family is my top priority.

The year 2006, I obtained 10 medals from various races and my Personal Records (PRs) are as follow: -

* 5 km - 26 min 12 sec @World Asthma Day Jogathon
* 10 km - 49 min 31 sec @Subang Jaya 10K
* 15 km - 1 hr 29 min 48 sec @NB PACM 15K
* 21 km - 2 hr 6 min 01 sec @Putrajaya Inter. Marathon

The Future..

The year 2007, my target number of medal to be grabbed are 18 medals and my target PRs are as follows: -

* 5 km - sub 22 min 00 sec @TBD
* 10 km - sub 47 min 00 sec @TBD
* 15 km - sub 1 hr 15 min 00 sec @NB PACM 15K 2007
* 21 km - sub 1 hr 50 min 00 sec @KLIM 2007

The year 2008 is my marathon year. See you all at KLIM 2008’s 42 km.

Lastly, special thank to my wife and kids, they give all the support I need, TQ.
