Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #54

My name is foo Ching ling Fb nickname called (little Red Riding Hood), age 41. If you ask me why am I "run?" that should begin by early of 2014, I was 38 years old that time I begin to feel the middle-aged crisis like physically unfit , coincidentally there was a movie hosted by Nick Cheung as a MMA fighter. Nick has trained and fit up his muscle and body shape. I was thinking to my self at his age he can do it, why can't I? So, I started to plan and execute it in 2014, I started with the simplest movement, I went to trail running+ manual resistive exercise for a year

In 2015, I started the road running when I was 39 years old. I would like to participate in Men open (before 40) ran a FULL Marathon, so I signed up for SCKLM. Unfortunately it was canceled due to heavy haze during that time. However is took the opportunity to train and tune up my self in order to lay a good foundation for my future targets in 2016 after a friend encouraged me to participate in NIKE do my 1th Hm Sub2 timing 1:52. After doing my 1th Fm sub4 SCKLM 2016 paint perfect timing 3:47 full stop.

Later I found that "chimpanzees and gorilla are not the same" what kind of exercise produced what kind of stature. so after 2016 SCKLM I re focus to gym weight training.

In 2017 a friend introduced me to Manager Lee Teck Wai and found out about the pace makers secret group, at first I thought got a lot of pretty girls in the group, later I found out there are mostly men Elite Lol.

Finally, I would like to thank Captain Ronnie See allowed me join the secret group I will help you find more girls to join the secret group Lol

Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #49

First of all would like to thanks to Sifu Captain Ronnie See for the invitation to be part of pacemakers Malaysia running community.
My name Ivan Koh, I did my 1st half Marathon just under 2 hours during my secondary school though my focus is more on badminton that time. But until I went into retailing. No consistent exercise ever since then.

I run again in 2015 because of healthy instead of the upsurge of the global running atmosphere( guess that's most of the people worry when after 40 haha), I enrolled 2016 SCKLM so that I have a target and not to be lazy. Relying on some info from internet on how to run a FM, I manage to complete my maiden FM in 4:00:32 SCKLM 2016.

I'm always a lone runner until SCKLM 2017, thanks to Sifu Manager Lee Teck Wei encourage me to join windrunners LSD and pacemakers weekday training.

From there I got to know many more running kaki and can really enjoy the fun of group training as we can motivate and encourage each other, not only to stay healthy, but to become a stronger runner too.

Below are my pia record:

FM 3:47:12

HM 1:39:18

10K 45:00

As running become part of runners life, Let's run hand in hand to create a healthy and fun running community.

Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #22

As a sport person I never stop exercising and taking part in all sort of sport activities since my high school and that made me think I'm a "fit" person. But In January 2014 , this self "siok" thinking was varnished after I took a long hours just to complete my very virgin "7km marathon" run together with my Malaysia masters athlete friends. Some how that experience never stop me from there and since then I never look back and started my running journey by signing up races one by one and my weight also dropped from 68kg to 56kg during the peak and I never felt so good about myself and walk also got winds but most importantly are those friends i met throughout the running journey.

By end of 2016, I had completed 1 ultra, 14 full marathon many many half marathon and short run.

Came to year 2017, somehow my performance seem like hit the wall and my timing dropped tremendously. Worries and confusion started disturbing me even had a thought to quit running but with the blessing and encouragement from my Jingle my fiance, I'm started sourcing and seeking advices from runners and friends and that how I'm started my training with LG group which is lead by Captain Ronnie See and Manager Lee Teck Wai together with many other running buddies.

With very short of times, I'm amazed with my result after those hardcore and pia spirit of training finally hit my very first sub4 in Kuching marathon 2017 with gun time of 3:52hrs then follow by many improvement in my 10km run.

Today I'm feel proud can be part of this big happy and strong family- Pacemakers Malaysia and let train hard and run like a family!!

Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #28

Good day all, I'm Melvin Lim. It's an honour to be invited by captain Ronnie See to be a PM member, he's also my 1st running sifu when I re-activated back running since I left Uni.

Why I say re-activated? Well, my running journey sort of started when I was in Lower 6 (1994), represented my House (Stephen) in 4x400m for Sixth Formers. You know where I ran? Merdeka Stadium! It was the venue for my school's annual Sports Day! Thinking back, should have started from Form 1 as I believe not many people have the opportunity to run there!
Couldn't remember my timing, no podium finishing but I think I did quite well as I've never ran before such a long distance!

2 years later when I studied at UPM, my 1st year roommate (Choo Yong Chek - a runner based in Penang now) was the one who jio me to run. Soon, I got addicted, it's either a run in the evening or playing squash - my 2 main sports in Uni. My 1st podium (2nd team relay) came in 1998 when I was with my Kolej Kediaman 2 (fondly known as KK2) relay team (though I was just a reserve runner). Then another track podium (6th for 5km) for inter Kolej Kediaman sports meet in the same year.

1998 races
Motivated by these mini achievements, I went on to join 3 races outside Uni.

Nevertheless, the desire to try running a FM for at least once in a lifetime triggered me back to running. Ya, now FM is nothing to some runners as they are already ultra 'man' or 'woman' :-P
If I didn't recall wrongly, joined sifu Ronnie at KLCC park for training in year 2011. I must say, the hard training imposed really made me improved a lot. That was where I got to learn new running variations like fartlek, tempo, interval (no LSD yet hehe). Really missed those fun days & some running friends like Stanley Cheong aka Mun Yoke who's now taking a breather taking care of his small growing children. I also want to credit my improvement to another ex-elite runner, captain Khoo Yit Kiat of Dutamas Runners aka Kenyan Kuning.

Everyone run for a different reason. To slim down is definitely not mine as I'm already almost a 'tulang man'. I run because it's a healthy, inexpensive sports & can run almost anywhere, anytime.

2 Tower runs (Empire Tower & KL Towerthon-18:30min) & my 1st HM (PJ)-1hr 40min. Came back with blister (believe improper socks, cheapo

And because I'm a competitive person, I train hard to challenge my PB. Truly inspired by the older but still very strong runners like the crazy fit horse@Daniel Tan, muscleman@Moey & evergreen uncle@Lim Huat. Hope can still be competitive like them in 10 to 20 yrs down the road.

Personal Best
5km 20min 33s (2014)
10km 42min 12s (Ampang Jaya Night Run 2017)
21km 1hr 33min+- (My Buddies Run 2017 - unofficial though)
42km 4hr 21min 27s (SCKLM 2012)

Dream Timing
5km Sub 20min
10km Sub 40min
21km Sub 1hr 30min
42km Sub 3hr 30 min

Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #39

First I would like to thank Captain Ronnie for the invitation to join the Pacemakers family.

My name is Phang Tze Hau, born in Kuching and 43 years old. I work for an engineering company as Subcontracting Manager.

I was never a runner during my younger days. In fact I used to doubt my ability in running. Those days I could not even run for 1km. I was puzzled when I saw hundreds of marathoners running in SCKLM 2010 version. How on earth could they run the distance of 42km? Are they nuts? Are they all super humans?

So how and why I start running?

My journey in running started in May 2014, one month before the trip to conquer Mount Kinabalu. To prepare for the trip, I chose running over other types of fitness training because of the influence from my wife Samantha. Besides, it is also time effective and convenient to me.

I first ran around my neighborhood, then at Titiwangsa park. I continued to run after I returned from the KK trip and that time I decided to join a race event. As a beginner, SCKLM 2014 was the only race I knew in KL. I was forced to register the full marathon category as the half marathon slots were then sold out. Luckily I did my first full marathon with a decent sub-5h time.

I met sifu Lee Teck Wai (PM57) one week before SCKLM 2014 at Lake Garden and joined him for the first time to run the LG-Hartamas-LG LSD route. Teck Wai did a sub-4h marathon that year and that really inspired me to train regularly and aimed to become a sub-4h marathoner. My first sub-4h marathon was achieved in SCKLM 2016, with the help from ultra sifu Raymond Foo.

Today running has become an important part of my life. I enjoy training together with group of passionate and highly motivated runners, be it the hard training days with Captain Ronnie or just the easy run. I join races once or twice a month and occasionally have luck for podium finish.

My long term goals are to run injury free and dream to beat Boston Qualifying Time one day.

Other fun facts of mine:

I am a minimalist runner but not yet thrown away my running shoes.
I have 4 pairs of Saucony Kinvarra 6 for rotation and may stick to this model until I’ve found an equivalent replacement.
My first race event was 2014 2XU HM, but my first registered event was actually SCKLM 2014 full marathon category.
My Personal Best:

10km – 44:38
HM – 1:42:48
FM – 3:43:50

100km – 15:30:18 (the one and only race – Titi Ultra 2017)

Lastly I would like to end this introduction with a quote from Julie Isphording – Run Often, Run Long. But Never Outrun Your Joy of Running.

Happy running!

Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #55

Hi Everyone! It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the Pacemakers family in the running community, Thanks Captain Ronnie See for the invitation.

I would like to introduce myself- Peter Tam, you can call me Peter or Pete. During my younger days, used to be fat and chubby, being call a 'fei zhai' fat in Cantonese
was a norm to me.

How did i took up running? My dad was a marathoner, he joined a club in Ipoh called KRI (Kelab Roarunners Ipoh), i used to follow him not for running, but to the play ground.

Guess my weight was getting heavier after i left high school in 1997, better to do something about my weight and i start to join my dad's friend for a short run. Back in 1997, there were 2 routes to choose, the 0.8km and 1.3km loop. I remembered i can't even finish jogging a 1.3km loop back then..... :(

After weeks of training i could do better and better and started to join them for LSD, a 16km route on Sundays. Did my first Ipoh Half Marathon in 1998, completed within 2 hours 13 mins, after that i've participated in a couple of half marathons till 2005 which is my last HM in PJ Half Marathon with a PB of 1 hours 48 mins before taking a break due to study and work.

I started running again in Jan 2014, had a couple of Ipoh friends which motivated me to pick it up, from then on met many running sifu's and friends which i've gain a lot of knowledge on running and experience. I took up the challenge to take part in my first Full Marathon in SCKLM 2014, happy to completed it in 5 hours 33 mins, i could still remember the joy of crossing the finish line! even though the legs doesn't feel like mine and i kind of told myself this will be my first and last FM. haha

After weeks pass by, was telling myself i think i could do better than that..... a sub 5 maybe. Cut the story short, i manage to do a sub 4 in 2016 in SCKLM. It was a great achievement
with a timing of 3:59:59 gun time , i was like chasing the bullet train the last 500 meters looking at the clock ticking every second to the finish line..... Phew! i did it! Till date I've ran
8 marathon's and 1 ultra marathon- 70KM.

Will be going to Osaka this coming November and will try to break 3 hours 50 mins this coming FM. Hope for the best!

*Der Spirit of Pia*

Personal Achievement:
5KM: 22 min 05 sec
10KM : 47 mins 23 sec
21KM: 1 hour 43: 43 sec
42KM: 3 hours 59 mins 50 sec

Welcome to der Family : der Pacemakers #32

Thanks Captain Ronnie See PM1 for the invitation to be part of Pacemaker Malaysia family members. Just wan intro myself as Ryan Chiew. Started running only in 2011 to help lose my weight which was around 95kg that time and manage stress better. I run to burn because I enjoy eating. Glad to meet a lots of new friends during the fast few years. I enjoyed encouraging others to run as form of exercise and meet their running objective. Fast or slow doesn't matter as long don't give up.

Cheers
