This is my report for my very 1st Kg. Pandan track speedwork. enjoy.
A Stroll In The Park @ Kampung Pandan Tracks.
Yeah, like real.Today was the first time I was gonna do speedwork. I have been readingso much about it on the internet and also in magazine. It's suppose tomake u a faster person. Well, I hope this works coz I'm taking a boldstep after reading so many of Ronnie's (PM1) blog entries on his Kpg.Pandan experiences.
I dunno what to feel really. Maybe a bit nervous lah at first but allthat's gonna change. Well, I arrive at the track @ 6.10pm and wassitting in the car and I saw John walking and waving to me. Where isthe old lady he was bringing to resuscitate me? Haha….
I put on my shoes and got out and John welcomed me to the track. ThenKenny (PM27) arrived and he too welcomed me. Hmmmph, I must be gettingquite a good attention. I then went to take a leak with Kenny and whenI went to the track, Ronnie was already doing his warm up laps.
I warmed up with a 2 km jog and waited for coach Chan to arrive. Hewas late and I stretched with Ronnie, Azwar and chat with my ex-schoolteacher, Mr. Sarjit. He brought his son along too. Grooming him to bethe next Arul Thevar Singh. Hahahaha….
Then someone volunteered to be the assistant coach. We did our warm upwith 50m fast and 50m slow. After 1 lap coach Chan arrived. This iswhere it all began.
He divided us into 3 groups and made us run 2km. I was put in the lastgroup coz he has yet to see me run. One by one the group was soundoff. He told us not to bluff ourselves coz if we can tekan, go ahead.I was thinking this old man must be nuts. Well, what the heck run onlilah, nothing to lose. I tried to time myself but was too nervous andscrewing up my buttons. While we were running, he was everywherearound the field shouting out our times as we passed. I guess, thosewere the 'mile markers'. By the 5th lap, I could hear myself wheezingand a broken whistle but I made it in one piece in 9:30. It's reallygreat to run at the track coz you have your mates to cheer andmotivate you. I really have to salute the guys there. Cheers.
Then coach broke us up into 3 groups and made us run 8, 7 and 6 lapsrespective to their group. Group 3 was given a time of 2:40, no more,no less. I could not manage to time myself here coz my hands and feetwere uncoordinated and what I could think of was when da hell will the6 laps end. By the end of the 6 laps, my legs were like jello and Iwas gasping for air. I thought that was the end, no way. Coach hadsomething else up his sleeves.
He called all of us back and then shouted "SHOWTIME". WTF??? He toldus to do 1 lap all out. He then hand picked the elites to be in the1st group. At his shout, they were off. These guys are speed demonsman. The fastest guy, Cecil came in @ 58 secs and Justin came in @1:02. Unimaginable! Coach made us cheer the elites as they wererunning down the 100m straights. Woohoo!
Then came 2nd and 3rd group's turn. We ran together and I was alreadytoo tired to hentam. But since this was the last lap, hopefully, mightas well give it all I have la. I ran at my own pace and was trying touse Sarjit as my pacer but these men were fast. I was sort of leftbehind but gave all in the last 150m and was running along side theold guy. I was totally out of breathe when I finished in 1:29. Mindwas alredi wandering off.
Coach then told us jog 2 laps to warm down. I ran together with Kennyand we finished the run in 1 piece. After that, we stretched and jokedto one another before leaving for our respective homes.
Overall, I find this really interesting and can't wait for Thursday'smenu from coach Chan. Running with your mates is a great experience. Ireally have to thank John, Kenny, Justin, Ronnie and Azwar for helpingme pull tru my first track session. It's been a pleasure to run withthem and if I were to do speedwork by myself, I don't think I willlast 1 grueling session coz I'm just too lazy. Hahaha…
BTW, Ajeep, no cun chicks at the track lah. Hahaha…
brought 2u by pm20 der KNN-Man!
