Game For RM100,000 Challenge In TM Forest Towerthon?

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- A bonus RM100,000 cash prize awaits the first runner who finishes the TM Forest Towerthon Challenge 2006 to be held here on Feb 19, in under nine minutes.

The event which is open to local and foreign participants is organised by Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd in conjunction with its 10th annivesary as well as the 100th annivesary of the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, where the Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower) is located.

"As part of the Tower's 10th annivesary's calendar of events, the TM Forest Towerthon Challenge 2006 is being held to revitalise the Malaysian stamina and participation in preparation for the Kuala Lumpur International Towerthon which is staged to make a comeback in 2007.

"This event also aims at showing our concern and efforts to preserve a sustainable environment besides keeping our people healthy," said Menara Kuala Lumpur chairman, Tan Sri Ir. Md Radzi Mansor at a press conference and sponsorship presentation ceremony here Thursday.

He said this year's challenge had adopted a new format whereby participants, both young and old, are required to run approximately one kilometer uphill from the starting point, instead of 800 metres previously.

Radzi said after completing the uphill run, participants would then have to climb the 2,058 steps of the tower to reach the finish line 288 metres above ground level.

This year's event offers eleven categories -- Men's Open, Women's Open, Junior Veteran, Men's Senior Veteran, Men's Diamond Veteran, Women's Diamond Veteran,Women Senior Veteran, Woman Diamond Veteran, Boys Junior, Girls Junior and a newly introduced category, Disabled Men and Women.

Those interested in participating can obtain the registration forms at Menara Kula Lumpur's Visitor Information Centre, its website at www.menarakl.com.my, Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association office in Wisma OCM along Jalan Hang Jebat here and at the National Youth Council.
