I started my first race in year 2006, the Penang Bridge Marathon : half marathon category (22.3KM), when my ex-colleague Yee Hua (PM51) dare me to join the race. Without hesitate to ask more about the race, I just signed up. When the race day came near, I started to get panic and worried as I did not have any training and did not know how long is the distance of 22.3KM? I know I’m crazy to go for it without training but just because of the ‘dare’, I told myself I must complete it no matter how.
And YES, I did it!…I completed the run in 2hrs 50mins and get my first medal. I’m proud of myself to be able to make it, but I suffered painful leg after that (especially when I get up from a seat, sometimes need to carry my leg…hehe). From then on, I signed up for more races in 10K and half marathon.
In Year 2007, I decided to go for my first full marathon in SCSM. Prior to the race, I do join pacesetters group for training in Bkt Aman or Putrajaya, but still not sufficient mileage, I did only twice long distance of 25KM. I completed my first marathon in 5hrs 46mins and suffered cramps from 30km mark onwards. I thought this would be my first and last marathon in my life, but again I signed up for Sundown Marathon, and to date, I have done 7 marathons…Looking forward for ultra-marathon, who know I’m crazy again to just blindly signed up, haha!
Throughout my running journey, I get to know runners from different groups, Pacesetters, SG Runners, Runnerz Circle and last but not least Pacemakers. Thanks Ronnie for inviting me to be part of the group. Cheer & keep on running!
