KRI 10 Miles - Race Report by Lilian Chen

Base on last year result, there should be no problem to get position after seven, yeah, that also everybody thinks like this. There only 28 runners in men open, damn happy when I see this and yesterday jalan-jalan makan tires end up in 1am was gone by this delightful message.

The starting spot was next to a big and beautiful fishing pond, did I mention the blue sky with birds and butterfly too? While wondering around the amazing nature of this golf club house just 7KM from the place I born, the officer ask us to start the race earlier. Warm up? Nah yesterday asam fish head curry keep me warm until I step in starting line.

Here we go

--------------
I wasn’t on pressure since it not KL and just to claim top 15 out of 28 runner, but find out I want to slap myself on this stupid calculation, immediate after start I can see 13 men in front with a crazy speed. Next to me are three men, which seem to be can shake me off anytime! I want to cry out loud, this was suppose to be a relax run! I want to complain, how can 28 people enter and 27 of them is all hares? Where the usual turtle which I suppose to see?

In the 2mile mark, I was start overtake by one of them, then on 3 mile mark I was "sayur" by 3 more! Jia lat loh!! I was at my full speed and they just overtake me like that! Luckily I took 2 power gel which one suppose for breakfast, but starting point I consume cakes and banana provide by organizer, I pop in one to make my fuel level and engine keep on burning, I start to feel cold as I run really fast and breath really hard! Although we are running in a nice cozy kampong road next to river, I have no time for the beautiful and quite scenery, what a waste! While I concentrate in front, I when have a snap at back, alamak, five guys are trailing me in 100 meter away!

My days come when after the u turn point, it seem to be 2 runners are out of gas and I pass by them without any fight back. With 4 miles to go, I was trailing a group of three musketeers; I pop in other power gel as I see no one doing this and this make me overtake them piece by piece. “Damn lucky I got my extra gel!” I cry out in tear. In less than 2 mile to go, I overtake an Indian who was injured and was in walk run condition, lucky me! Now I sure I in top 15, what a release!

In last mile, I see two hares are chatting among each other’s in front of me. I plan to ambush them, but luck went out when they notice my noisy steps and they just shake me off. I was cramp in stomach due to this stupid act, and the young Indian behind me catches up and running with me shoulder to shoulder. I force to use hand to squeeze hard on stomach to hold the pain and shake him off in last 200 meter to go.

I hold my position number 12 (overall) in my cold hands and ice the stomach before I register.

Footnote

---------
My official position in men open 9th, timing, 70m00s in 10 miles (16K), guys in front of me, 60m51s(1) … 69m51s(8), 70m21s(10), 70m58s(11) … 73m(15). My initial target time was 75m :`-O

I learn a hard lesson here; do not think others will not check on previous year result! But I really have a good time in the price ceremony cum annual meeting dinner later, I have 3 glasses of free whisky, wahahaha!
