der Grand Slam Event [G7]

What do the sports of tennis and golf have in common? They have what is known as the "Grand Slam". The expression Grand Slam is used to describe the winning of the tennis major events in one calendar year. This was later incorporated by other sports, notably golf, to describe a similar accomplishment. In tennis, the following are the Grand Slam or "major" events- Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. In golf, the Grand Slam or "Majors" are The Masters, U.S. Open, The Open Championship (referred to in North America as the British Open) and the PGA Championship. That being the case, our beloved Captain and founder of Der Pacemakers, Ronnie See Hock Leong thought, "Why not have certain selected local races grouped into this category?" In line with that, it has been decided that the following races will be grouped into what is known as the G7. It was selected based on our Captain's experience in the races held in 7 different states.

The races are:-
1) Kuala Lumpur International Marathon (Federal Territory);
2) Penang International Bridge Run (Penang);
3) PJ Half Marathon (Selangor);
4) Ipoh International Run (Perak);
5) Seremban Half Marathon (Negeri Sembilan);
6) Putrajaya Marathon (Federal Territory); and
7) Melaka Historic City International Marathon (Melaka)

As is the case with the Grand Slam events in tennis and golf, Pacemakers taking part in the G7 events will be given additional points based on their performance, which will ultimately count towards their ranking. Details of the points will be confirmed by Captain Ronnie See.

So, with that in mind, please note that the upcoming Grand Slam event is the Kuala Lumpur International Marathon on 18th March!!! There are a series of tune-up events before KLIM to get you race ready, most notably the Circuit Run II and III (11th February and 4th March). Der SMART Tunnel Run will be an excellent tune-up for those running the 21k and beyond. This is also a good time to ask yourself- "How is your training?" This is the time to lace up, get out on the roads and train your butts off! Maximise your training and you will maximize your performance!

Dont think what your legs can do for you! But what you can do for your legs!

What about 5 Star events like NB15K and GE30K? Ipoh KRI? Bidor?

Seremban (running with the cars and students), Ipoh (no medals) and Melaka sucks lah! How can you include them? Please rethink about including these 3!

My suggestion:
Great attention should be emphasized on the quality & management of the run, medals, certs, cash rewards & publicity, before they could be included in the Grand Slam.

Grand Slam Runs : (1) KLIM (2) PJ Half or Putrajaya (3) Saberkas (4) Nilai/PD
(For GrandSlam runs, at least must have a Half Marathon).

ATP Runs : (1) GE30K/NB15K (2) SJ10K/AKOTR/Klang10K/ShahAlam10K/Bomba/RakanCOP.

Maybe could include other categories like:
- a walk (Malay Mail Big Walk/Penang24HrWalk/Penang StarWalk)
- relay (Penang Round the Island/Hse Relay)
- climbathon (Gunung Angsi/Genting Trail Blazer).
- cross country (ING-KRI 12KM Cross Country Run/FTAAA)

Okay lah...all larians that I go ones, include in Gram Slam. All larians that I don't go ones, to be excluded. Furthermore, as & when I like, each year I give my own ranking points..(insert talk co*k here)
