When : 28th June 2009
Where : Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur
Distance : 42.68km according to YS Lee gps kok
Awards : Finisher Medal & Lousy T-shirt
My Pacer : Stanley Cheong & Raymond Ng
Target : Sub 3 hrs 30 mins (paiseh, mission fail)

Sorry to all my fan for my mission fail, seem like everyone so kan chong to know how I did. Sms keep coming in, paiseh nia sob.. sob.. I'm juz 5 mins and 42 sec away off target. I was hoping this will be last last marathon liao if I can achieve sub 3'30, that mean I hv to come back again next year for revenge, provided Otak-Kong organise it nicely lah. Cinya disappointed wit them.

My Split Time : (some dist are not acurate & missing)
01km : 04'29.22
02km : 04'56.83 > 09'26.05
03km : 04'47.76 > 14'13.81
04km : 04'54.49 > 19'08.30
05km : 04'56.18 > 24'04.48
07km : 10'00.97 > 34'05.42
09km : 11'20.99 > 45'26.41
10km : 03'41.69 > 49'08.10

1st 10km was on target, feel like heaven. However, my shoe giving a problem liao. Due to wet route on these morning rain like cat n dog before race start.

12km : 09'44.71 > 58'52.81
13km : 04'56.45 > 1h 03m 49s
14km : 04'53.39 > 1h 08m 42s
15km : 05'00.21 > 1h 13m 42s
16km : 04'34.80 > 1h 18m 17s
17km : 05'15.68 > 1h 23m 33s
18km : 04'57.63 > 1h 28m 30s
19km : 04'57.13 > 1h 33m 28s
20km : 04'48.28 > 1h 38m 16s

After 20km, still on target n feeling good but my toe cinya painful like hell liao. Take 1 powergel n do some some stretching then continue my journey. Raymond n Stanley no more follow me liao, amkan! Run all by myself liao.

21km : 05'10.29 > 1h 43m 26s
22km : 05'04.61 > 1h 48m 31s
23km : 05'04.47 > 1h 53m 35s
24km : 05'03.47 > 1h 58m 39s
25km : 05'09.20 > 2h 03m 48s
26km : 05'09.01 > 2h 08m 57s
27km : 05'00.91 > 2h 13m 58s
28km : 05'19.44 > 2h 19m 17s
29km : 04'56.12 > 2h 24m 13s
30km : 05'13.98 > 2h 29m 27s

After 30km, still feel very good. Suddenly there was a uphill climb at Jln Hang tuah route, very der jialat. And oso feel like want to kencing liao, wasted a lot of time here.

31km : 06'33.98 > 2h 36m 01s (pit stop)
32km : 03'57.12 > 2h 39m 58s (still on target)
33km : 06'03.90 > 2h 46m 02s (from here off target liao!)
34km : 05'21.98 > 2h 51m 24s
35km : 05'25.86 > 2h 56m 51s

After 32km, I run out of gas liao. Cinya struggle, my both toe cinya cinya pain liao, sumore hv to run zig-zag to avoid 21km & 10km runners n share water wit them.. double amkan!

37km : 10'37.30 > 3h 07m 28s
38km : 05'54.08 > 3h 13m 22s
40km : 10'40.37 > 3h 24m 24s
41km : 05'32.01 > 3h 29m 34s (bye bye to 3'30 liao)

Der Worst Collection Bib Ever in My Life

Never in my life make a u-turn after seeing der queue was so unbelievable long n worst not moving at all bcoz of power failure. Even no power failure, oso not moving at all. I was there at 1pm, saw Kei Ming oredi amkan waited more than 1 hr liao. He oso decide to go back wit me. Imagine I hv to collect for my wife bib 10km, then I hv to queue all over again after I long queue at 42km. Damn!! Amkan!

We will be there again after I finish my work at 7pm, hopefully der queue are not that long liao.

Otagon, pls speed up der work!!

Below message is from Loke :

Very disappointed with the organisers. FTAAA must be the happiest folks in town to see the chaos since the show was taken way from them.

Supposed to collect during lunch but went later because of rain. Arrived at 1:45 and it took me more than 80 mins to collect bib for FM category. Not many people in queue for FM but the problem is there are only 3 counters. Problem is compounded by people who collect more than 6 bibs (someone 3 positions ahead of me even collected for 21 pax). Organisers should have separate queue for bulk collection as this is the main cause of delaying those eho collect a few bibs. Queue is worse for HM and 10k. Two days is definitely not enough for bib collection. I cannot the imagine the situation tomorrow.

Parking on Race Day for SCKLM

From Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009

We recommend that your park your cars at the designated eight RapidKL shuttle pick-up points and take the buses from there. However, if you really must drive, you can park at parking bays in the Dataran Merdeka underground parking, Daya Bumi, and Padang Merbuk.

Please note however that if you're planning to park in the Dataran Merdeka underground you can only park before 4.30am and leave after 11.30am.

For Daya Bumi, you must park before 6.00am and can only leave after 11.00am.

For Padang Merbuk, you can park and leave anytime. You can also park at other venues, ex. Lake Gardens, but they are further away than the three cited above.

We will provide updates on road closures as soon as we can, but for now, we can tell you that the marathon route itself will be closed to traffic between 5.00am and 11.00am on 28 June 2009

10 Marathon Tips for SCKLM 2009

courtesy from Choo Cheng Liang

Since you will have almost completed your training by now these tips focus on the days just before the marathon as well as race day itself. I’m also assuming that you are in good health with no recent injuries. If this is not the case you might seriously consider withdrawing from the marathon, or at least running at a much slower pace than you intended initially.

Here are my tips...

1. Keep hydrated:
Not just during the race; try drinking the proverbial 8 cups of water per day for the entire week before the marathon. This way your body gets used to the extra fluid.

2. Check your shoes:
They should be in good condition, and it’s almost too late now for a new pair. Don’t try and use new shoes for running the marathon. You should have broken them in with at least one long run.

3. Eat your big pasta meal two days before the race:
Don’t try and carbo’ (over)load the night before the race. You could end up with an upset stomach the next morning. Instead have a fairly modest meal – sure enjoy a pasta dish, just don’t overdo it. In fact I recommend not doing anything too much out of the normal for the whole week before the race.

4. Relax the day before:
Try taking things real easy. Don’t spend hours on your feet at the pre-race expo – you’ll feel it the next day. A hot bath with Epsom salts can be really relaxing and beneficial.

5. Pace yourself correctly:
This is probably the most important factor that determines your performance.

Take into account the weather, the course terrain and how you feel. I firmly believe it’s better to start out a little slower than your goal pace. Adjust your pace depending on how you feel, if you’re struggling at the halfway point you’d better pull back.

6. If the weather is bad – adjust your finish time:
Bad weather is one of the main things that can really impact your run. It’s better to accept this fact and aim for a slightly slower time rather than run out of energy and hit the wall at mile 20. Who knows, you might have a great run in spite of the weather, in which case you can pick up the pace in the latter stages of the race.

7. Be careful with power gels and energy replacement products:
Don’t take energy gels or even Gatorade if you haven’t done so during training. Your stomach can become upset very easily as you get into the later miles. Hopefully you will have experimented with different energy drinks and so forth during your training runs. I have found a simple slice or two of orange around mile 21 has helped me a lot.

8. Mentally divide the race into sections:
26.2 miles is a very long way! I always divide the race up into different segments. 10K, 10 miles, halfway, and 20 miles. Then as your reach one goal you aim for the next. This gives you something to focus on besides the finish line.

9. Try walking:
Brief walking breaks periodically will give your legs a change from the constant running stride. This will help the muscles avoid tightening up too much in the later stages. You won’t add a whole lot to your finish time either!

10. Walk around after the marathon:
You probably won’t feel like doing this but it will help you gradually cool down. As a result you’ll recover faster in the days following the race.

Racing shoes for sale...Cheap

S O L D - O U T !

Hi Ronnie,

I have 2 pairs of running/racing flats for sale. Both used less than 3 times and in very good condition. Due to an injury from cycling, I’m not running in races anymore so I’d better sell them off to fellow runners who need them. The Brooks T4 Racer needs no intro, still in very good condition. Only used it for 2 x 10K races. The New Balance RT800 MFS shoe is the much hyped mid-foot strike shoe that New Balance released in late 2007. I bought this in Singapore early last year and only used it for 1 x 21K race. Condition is almost like new.

Appreciate if you can help me post these in the blog. If these fail to sell within 2 weeks or so, I will sell them at a higher price in Ebay J

Brooks T4 Racer

Size: US 9 / JPN 27Cm
Condition : 9/10
Price: RM100 (Best price)

Payment: Maybank2U / COD(PJ Area only)
Delivery: Poslaju (RM7) or Self-collect in PJ area

Reason for selling: Shoe is too fast for me and too many shoes !

Used only for two 10K races and less than 5 times short distance training run. One of the lightest racing flat available.

New Balance RT800 MFS (Midfoot Strike)

Size: US 9 / JPN 27cm
Condition: 9.5 / 10
Price: RM130 (Best price)

Payment: Maybank2U / COD (PJ Area only)
Delivery: Poslaju (RM7) or Self-collect in PJ area

Reason for selling: Too many shoes !

Used only for one 21K race. Japan model, bought in Singapore. This shoe is not available in Malaysia. Mid-foot strike race trainer with Abzorb, N-Lock, N-durance, Acteva. Very light, suitable to be used as racing flat for races up to 21K. More details here ( http://www.newbalance.co.jp/products/detail.php?RT800A )

Thanks a lot !

Der Kancheong Pangsai Road to SCKLM : Wk 14/15th

C.L.O.S.I.N.G. C.E.R.E.M.O.N.Y. F.O.R.

What :
Training for Cinya Kan-Cheong Pangsai SCKLM 2009

When : 20th June '09, Saturday
Meeting Point : Bukit Aman Car Park
Distance : 15km only
Starting Time :
6.00am

Attendants : All Are Welcome!

I'm glad this has come to d end liao, after all der suffering since last 13rd weeks in a row. I hope everyone had a good time when training wit me during last 2 month, especially those who had pace wit me wan. I'm so proud to hv ur guy tagging along wit me, all sacrified really paid off.

Here are some very good advise message from Peter der French guy :

Hi Ronnie,

Just 2 weeks to go, now take it easy, rest a lot (sleep early) but still run, u can do some speed to remove the heavy sensations that u can feel with the long run. Session like 10x1' R/1'30" (warm up 30' before n recover 10' after) will give u some good sensations. Eat a lot of pasta the last 3 days before the race but little carbs the 3 first days of the last week. Don't worry, with all the long runs u did, u won't get problem to run 42k, now it's just what is the time you will run? If u can eat (banana, gel) during the race, it would help u n don't forget to drink. When u lose 2% of body weight in fluids, it can affect your performance by 10%. Start to drink the previous day. For ur 2nd marathon what u need to increase, it's your mileage/week.

Good luck.

Peter

Kan Cheong Road To SCKLM: Circuit Runs - The Complete Season

Story, pictures & Video by runwitme.blogspot.com

Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon is less than two weeks away.

How is your preparation?

Last Saturday night saw the completion of a series of circuit training for KL Marathon organised by der Pacemakers Network. The last circuit run was held at Taman Bukit Jalil with collaboration with Bukit Jalil Running Club.

There was quite a scare during the first loop. According to Amelia, a tree fell about 5 meter away right in front of her path. Thank God no one was harmed and the training continued with a slight diversion to avoid the fallen tree.

Since I am not running the full marathon, I decided to volunteer as videographer to capture all the actions during the circuit runs. It was fun but challenging as two out of the three runs were held at night!

Here are the three complete videos of der Pacemaker Network Circuit Runs.

CLICK PLAY and ENJOY!

Mission: Impossible-inspired.

Michael Jackson's Thriller-inspired.

StarWars-inspired.

Hope you enjoy the videos as much as I enjoyed making them. Comments are welcome.

GOOD LUCK for KL Marathon! RUN YOUR RACE!

Note: No animals were harmed in the process of making these videos. :)
