Welcome to der Family : der PaceMakers 51

Winnie Wong

Just like many other runners out there, I started running in order to lose weight and burn unwanted fats. Believe it or not, I can’t even run more than 5 minutes in my early days. Running more than that makes me feel like dying!

The 1st run that I’ve signed was the Penang bridge half marathon. I do not know what came into my mind but that was it, my 1st race! It was kind of crazy because I’ve never tried 10km or even 5km run before. No proper training. No proper advice. The longest timing I did was only 45 minutes which includes slow running and most of the time walking. With these, you could have already imagined how I suffered during the race.

Scolded and cursed myself all the way, also promised that will never sign up for this kind of race ever again. Although it was really suffering, but I never gave up. All these moods changed when I crossed my 1st finish line. At the moment when the marshal hang the first finisher medal on me, all those pain, suffering, scolding, cursing disappeared just like that. It was a sense of joy and achievement which I could never describe. And that’s how my running life begins…..

My 1st full marathon started off in year 2004, which is in Singapore. Same goes to year 2005-2007, all in Singapore. That time, I only did one marathon per year. In year 2008, I decided to increase the amount of marathon per year so I did 2 marathons. Year 2009, increased again to 3 marathons per year. Year 2010 was crazy because I’ve did 11 marathons, 1 ultra marathon, and also bought a bike and move into world of triathlon!! And in the same year, I qualify for the Marathon Maniacs at the Silver (2 star) Level. I am now Maniac #3165 (Silver).

As of today, I’ve completed 20 marathons, 1 ultra marathon, 1 12hours walk which I’ve covered the distance of 62km, 1 climathon, twice sprint triathlon, 1 half distance powerman, 1 biathlon, 1 The North Face 25km, and also plenty of races included 30km / 21km / 10km / 7km.

Pacemakers is indeed a well known community among runners. Have been wondering and asking around about the requirement for joining this club. And I was told that runners have to be invited in order to join Pacemakers, there’s no application form for it!! So too bad I can’t apply. =(

Recently, in Penang Round Island Relay, I as a “kau kau lat” Pacemaker’s supporter, was given the opportunity to become the second team’s photographer during the event. It was also an opportunity to meet with most of the Pacemakers members there.

On 10/01/2011, a mail popped up and it was from PM1 Ronnie See! Inviting me to join his running community as PM51!! Was very exited and happy that I’ve finally been invited!! Thanks Ronnie!

I am happy to join this BIG family and hope to improve my timing with the guidance of Pacemaker’s members. And the most important is to learn how to “pia”!!!

And with the request from PM1, I’ve added some of my “leng lui” pictures! =)

Welcome to der Family : PACEMAKERS #48

I love running because it is one of the most popular sports and exercise to improve health and fitness. Running is also one of the best exercises we can commit to if we want to manage weight or keep in shape.

I started running seriously in 2005 at the age of 41 years old. I have participated my first 10km (Power Run) in July 2005 with the timing of 58:00m. In Sept 2005, I did my first half marathon race in PJ Half Marathon with the timing of 1:58:13. After completed 10km , 21km races. I am intended to ran longer distance.I sign up for the Great Eastern 30km race and KL Ambank Marathon 2006. My target is only to complete the races and get the finisher medals. So, I started my training for this two events which is 3months before 30km race and 6months before KL Marathon.

I ran long distance for 2 to 3 hours during Sunday at Gasing Hill which is nearby my house .In the early morning, whenever passed by the housing areas always chasing by the dogs and I have to slow down. Then, I met Uncle Sonny Ng- Group leader from Gasing Hill Area. He persuaded me to join PACM member.

On Jan 2006, I completed my 30km with the timing of 02h38m22s .After this 30km race, it give me more confident toward KL Marathon 2006.....2 months ways. I just continue my traning regularly. On 05Mar 2006, suprisingly my first marathon complete with the time of 3h58m40s ( sub 4).

I still remember after Laguna Phuket Marathon 2007, I received a mail from Mr Ronnie See (PM1) inviting me to ran Pacemaker Relay Race with one of the team. After that, I also join the LSD ran with a group of pacemakers member and also races organise by Pacemakers.

My most memorable moment was in 2008, when I completed my full marathon with my personal best time of 3h 45m 29s in Penang Bridge Marathon.

So far, I have completed races for 10km, 12km, 15km, 21km, 25km, 30km, KL Towerthon (4), 42km(24), 84km sundown (2) MR25 Utramarathon(2) Northface 50km (1).

Here, I like to thanks Mr Ronnie See( PM1 ) inviting me to the family of Pacemakers.

Thanks.

Welcome to der Family : PACEMAKERS #50

I started running during my secondary school days and besides running, I am also active in other sports as well. After I graduated from college and joined the workforce, I was totally inactive and stopped running.

One day in 2007, I decided to sign up a gym membership and restart my engine. I ran on a treadmill and did strength training 3-4 times a week, slowly increasing my speed and distance.

After a year training in the gym, I start to run at KLCC Park which is near to my office. With consistency I run until I am fit and feel comfortable to enter road race. Finally, in April 2009 I signed up for my very first road race – SCKLM2009 in 21Km and finished 2hr 14mins.

At the same time I get to know der Pacemakers Network from my friend and from there I have been following PM1's blog. I first met PM1 Ronnie See in December 2009 at KLCC Park through AdiNation as he is the person in charge of KLCC Park area.

Through the year 2010, I have ran in many races; Pacesetters 30K and 15K, SCKLM2010, Sundown2010 and etc. Along the way, I met some others Pacemakers members.

On 23rd Dec 2010, I received a pleasant surprise from Pm1 Ronnie See, inviting me to be a part of the PIA-ing community.

Thank you Ronnie for allowing me to be part of der Pacemakers big family. From now onwards I am a PM.

Always running,
Wind Fong @ PM50
