Larian Merdeka 2005 - Race Report

Merdeka!... Merdeka!... Merdeka!... Merdeka!... Merdeka!...
Merdeka!... Merdeka!... Merdeka!... Merdeka!... Merdeka!...

Surprise Called!!!!
I oredi plan for a 20km long run on dis morning, suddenly i got a suprise called from PAS organizer (Encik Nik) y'day. He invited me to join their Merdeka Run at Taman Cheras Indah K. Lumpur on dat morning. N ozo ask me to invite more fren's too, but is oredi 6.00pm at dat hrs, where can i find ppl? I guess everyone ozo went back home liao. Sumore it gonna held on dis morning? Very rush for me to get ppl, n my hp ozo no credit to call out. Der only person i ask is Chen Fong Fong, Ryan Teoh Mei Mei n Rachel Lee. Coz i send msg to them thru chatbox, lucky they got my msg. Coz they're der only person who i know crazy about medal, der rest are not.

Improvement...
I took part dis event last yrs, n only top 3 finisher got trophy but no medal. Consolation prize up to top ten, n a mini hamper. I finish 4th. Dis yrs is different, top 3 got trophy n medals from 4th to 10th placing. Distance ozo increase from 2.5k to 4.5k, n marshall control were excellent. No one complain getting lost, n they going to make dis event as a annual race to a longer distance. They oso ask for der technical help from der pacemakers team, n i'm oredi agree to give help if next yrs event is comfirm. Huray!!!

Thank You PAS!
Many thanks to der PAS organizer for calling me up in der last dying mins, else i will miss der chance of getting another beautiful medal. They are so kind n friendly to us, b4 we say bai bai to them, they even ask us to come back again next yrs. We will definitely do!!!

Champion for Rachel Lee!
Congratulation to PM21, Dis is der 1st time in history she got champion in any running event. I'm so proud of her performance today. She pia very hard to mantain her lead until finishing. Me n Ryan oso pace wit her in der last 500m to go. Pacemakers Boleh!!!

Larian Gemilang - Report by Chen Fong Fong

As my usual style, I reach late there, almost 7.23 after I change & pee pee… aiyo, body still dun wan 2 wake up lor… then I see a coffee shop is open, some more open air, so nice! Want to sit lioa wor, but da prize… it hurt when I see it arrrrgggg! Forget about da coffee, smell enough lioa! Take a DEEEEEEEP breath! Ah! Feel like drink 2 cups lioa, wakakaka untung untung!!

Pass 7.30 lioa, people still walk here & there... got time 2 warm up a bit lor… quickly go to da site of the coffee shop & do warm up… nothing as good as a good taste of smell of coffee in sleepy head! Wakakaka, untung again!

I think it 7.40, people queue up for Negaraku, then a prayer in Islam… yawn* coffee shop is still half empty, wish I sit there… bang! Huh? Race start lioa?! Aiyo! Bye bye ice blend! Bye bye double shot!

No plan, just follow da captain will do, but cilaka that fellow run like no tomorrow, no sign see in 1st 5min, then I can roughly see him, aiyo… I think he want the medal so badly. I keep on pushing, until I confirm it’s him, only then I can slow a bit. Wah… leg feel so tired lioa… I dunno what my position, maybe pass in 20’s…

The route of Sri kembangan is eye open for me, although it just locate near the mines, I still can see old style coffee shop, people pace of life so slow, no helmet motorcycle, beggar sleep in corridor, aunty ride bicycle buy breakfast… HEY!!! A mashall yell at me, huh? Oppsss salah turn, I almost got into the town street, wahahaha! Interesting, INTERESTING!

Last part was so suffer, not even 40min and I can see da end point lioa… again not a 10k route, cis! Have to turbo kau2 until I see pm1 around 50 meter, then ah… slow down… cukup lah tu, get medal or not also no problem lioa, coz I have pia kau2 lioa errr almost 80% of da route kekeke… tired so tired…

As my predict result, I get da best of it #23 , wakakaka! Good good!!! I predict pm1 will get #19-22, me #23-26… bull eye shoot! Unexpected I get da medal, this one I cannot predict lioa ;-) quickly change & go daughter fren b-day party until 4pm in One U Kidz gym & sport… tell u… insite the playground so damn nice and adventure even adult can play for HOURS!!

tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!... tns!...

I hate dis run!!!
From der start, i oledi feel dis wont be a gut wan. Eventually i really dont hv any interest at all,
i didnt even rest b4 der last 2 days. I still continue my hard training.I prefer doing my sunday long run. Bcoz PM17 has sign up for me. Den I got no choice but to run lor. Uhuk.. uhuk... Lucky Chen Fong Fong oso sign up! yeah!!!

Very tired!!!
Due to walking to much at shopping mall on saturday, my leg was so so so damn tired. Der entry form doesnt mention wat time was der flagoff, i got no choice but to leave house early. Reach there 6;30am. Der race started only at 7:41.25am, after singing der Negaraku Song. Some sing loud, some sing soft, some dont sing at all, n dat was me, save my breath for der race.. hehehehehe....

Pia until no tomoro!!!

From der start, i oledi start to turbo like mad cow liao. Bcoz medal limited until top 20th, so dis consider a high blood pressure race. After der 1k, my leg was like sotong oledi. So difficult to sustain der pace, sumore i was drop out of top 20th placing. Ppl keep overtoke me until i was 22nd placing, i was so damn nervous liao.

20...21...20...21...20...21...20...
From 3k - 7k my positon was like yoyo, up down up down 20-21-20-21-20-21 cinya scary! After 8k, only i manage to breakaway from der sayur. A bit of relief, but still not in a save position, #19 at der moment. Chen Fong Fong was 100m behind me, if i'm not mistaken.

Almost there liao!!!
My time watch shown 30mins plus liao, n i oso can see der big South City Plaza building n it getting closer n closer liao. I not hoping for any PR, juz want to finish top 20th. Wit 1k to go, suddenly potong by one of der malay runner. Wow!!! big trouble!!! Try to follow him, but only for a while only, coz he was a solid finish. so juz maintain my position.

So Geram!!!!!!!!
Wit 100m more to go, suddenly there was 1 chinese fella juz behind me without my notice. Coz i only notice fong fong thru out all der way. Without think twice, i poof all my way to finishing line, n i got 20th placing. Suddenly PM21 told me they give away der medals until top 50th placing. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt!!!!!!

Lagi-lagi Geram!!!!!
After so suffering thru out der race for fighting der top 20th placing, n u know wat? Der medal is made by PLASTIC!!!!! EYAK POOI!! EYAK POOI!! EYAK POOI!! POOI! POOI!!

more photos coming up, only ready in tomoro!

if u thinking of breaking record at klcc park, pls not at dis moment. reason is, there are some renovation work which affect at der track area oso. and u really must tekan break at that spot. usualy i run slow, so never feel der curve area so dat tough. but until y'day me thinking of pr, only i realize der kan-kor-ness. summore y'day raining so kau lat n make der curving area so slippery, i think dat area slow me down at least 6 to 10 sec. sumore it's so uphill, 10 sec x 10 laps, i lost 1 mins n 40 sec. every mins every sec it so important for me to pr. too bad it never happen. i could hv done it below 1 hour, if wasnt any renovation there.. uhuk! uhuk!

der_pacemaker #39

My name is Tan Boon Seng aka BoSe. I’m 24 years old and I’m a Klangite. I’m currently working as a service engineer in medical diagnostics field and I’m temporarily based in Penang.

I wasn’t really allowed for outdoor activities while I was young hence I’m not really a sport enthusiast until 3 years ago. I started do some jogging occasionally when I was pursuing my degree in a local university. There was a popular jogging route which encircles the campus completely, consisting a very long and challenging hill road. I started aiming to complete the jogging route which measures approximately 5 km. With the motivation and support from my roommate and a good friend where they were also runners, I managed to overcome my mental weakness and completed the route numerous times during my final year. From that on, I had fallen in love in running and started joining a few running events in campus and my first public run was KLIM 03 (10km event). After KLIM 03, I stopped running as I was pretty busy with my new job, until that day when I made a huge decision to join my friend in Penang Bridge Run 2003. At that time, I had no choice but to run 22.3km as that’s the shortest route for participants above 18 years old.

I would say that my running life had taken up a huge step forward when I successfully completed the half marathon without proper trainings. My confidence in running has increased after the Penang Run and I started running actively in the year of 2004. I was in my good form last year. I even challenged myself to run full marathon in Singapore Marathon last year, although it ended in disastrous way as I was hit by a series of knee injuries and also lack of proper marathon training.

I’m proud of myself as I have successfully overcome my weaknesses and now I do try other sports too such as badminton, swimming, mountain climbing and jungle tracking. I also managed to influence my close friends in Klang to run with me and now they join me in almost all the runs. I also get to know a lot of runners out there.

I cannot call myself as a good runner as I seldom train due to my job commitments, weak knees and also laziness. I’m trying to get rid of the laziness and instead, to run as frequent as possible. Hopefully one day I can become a good runner and make der pacemakers team proud.

My 2nd Week Long Run

Jialat... Jialat... Jialat...

Racing season start back only on september, so taking dis 3 wks of sunday to train hard for my long run. Der 1st wks i target 1'40 since i haven done much long run during racing season from june to august. Last wks I did 1'39, so very satisfy liao. Dis wks target time was 1'36, but its quiet hard lor, unless i hv someone pace wit me.

I know der only person available is Kenny Tan aka der asthma man! Quickly sms n booked him first, surprisingly Khoo Yit Kiat was there too. So 3 of us running neck to neck. Kenny was quite talkative during der run, so i let him d all der talk while i juz listen. kekekeke.... Coz i got no breath to talk liao, espeacially on der way back. Very suffering wor, i even stop for pansai at der petrol station.

Wit 4k left, i start to fire liao. Khoo follow very close behind, Kenny? I think he ran out of gas liao? So i run as hard as i can, dont want Khoo to potong my sayur. But kenot keep on der pace, Khoo slash me after 2km to go. I try to gave a chase, but he keep going faster n faster. But for me, suffer n suffer..

After complete my run, checking my time was ^%$#*& shiet! over target liao!!! Going to be more suffer next week! Any taker?

Last week long run:
51:23 > 47:46 = 1' 39m 09.47s

Dis week long run:
49:13 > 45:23 = 1' 34m 44.44s

Next week target time (Final):
1' 33m Can bo?

Chk out for my action picture tomolo ya! All very funny wan, hehehe.... some photo shot are, Adam 1/2 naked, Kelvin n Adam kam lan face, Mr n Mrs Loh Kean Teong, John learn to shy n many more...

I may not be strong enough to take the first position in race but i got the heart to compete not matter how hard it is cos i was born to take challeges. Stay focus in what ever u are doing then u will see greatness. Be Strong Enough to take challeges.

No More Haze n My Longest Run...

Thank god der haze has gone liao, i hope it gone forever lah.

Alto i was quite tired coming back from Tampin (Seremban) on saturday nite, but it wont stop me from doing my long run on sunday morning at Bkt Aman to Sri hartamas 20k. My last long run to Hartamas was 2 month ago, due to races here n there lah.

I was late, alto i oredi promise Adam n Kenny 6:30am our starting time. I only arrived at 6:45am, quickly went to toilet n settle my business. Start my run only at 6:55am. It was quite boring as there was no pacer around me all der way to Sri Hartamas n coming back too. Alto i was late, but i still manage to catch up wit couple of runners. But still, i run on my own.

Today i only saw, Pm6, Pm7, Pm19, Pm29, n Pm30. Where r der rest? Sumore dis Kenny lepas kapal terbang on me... cis!!!

20km Split Time:
1st 10km = 51m 23.60s

TTDI Love Nature Run 2005

Unlike last week Klang race, which I does not sleep due to support call, TTDI I was fresh and in injury free condition. However, this race was under enormous pressure, wife company trip bus take off 8.30am sharp and 7.30am already, the race supposes to start, still have no smell of it! This race I did not have to push blood flow in to head to be conscious like in Klang, which I also over heard conversation between two runner gangs, Ronnie and khoo, something like ‘… train… pace kau kau…’ think they want to compete among themselves, so have to step aside from them cause I not even can walk probably.
I was damn lucky while on the route, another two runners ‘kaki’ sandwich me and encourage me all the ways until finish line, or else I had given up in 2k mark which I had decide to walk already… so touching sop* sop* … ahem, too far away from main theme… let come back to TTDI run…

Time shown 7.30, which suppose race start time; two of fitness club member came out to demonstrate aerobic. Is it a practical joke or what? Cause it not FUNNY!
Bro, what had the running do with this type of constipation-style medication?

Cilaka! 20 minute pass and you still can’t make it to your release? Damn,I’ll be dead soon, my wife going to tear me apart… waaaaa!!!

The time flow like rocket and now few minute to 8am, my tear almost come out, I have decide to turn around and go home, but the crowd block me left and right, while try to struggle to come out, suddenly the race start, woohoo… at last da two instructor make it to toilet! What the heck, let join the run and explain to wife later.
It was a good start; coz I sweat out the cold sweat cause by the fear. The uphill does no damage to me although 2 months I did not run this route, but the problem comes in the jungle.
Let me see, I race three times in jungle including this, 2 times training… hmmm... none of them I manage to have a clear run! This time I fall and knock my right knee, the humpy dumpy quickly rub the numb leg and lucky it can move, phew* then the idiot of jungle quickly smash some leaf and let the juice stop the bleeding.
I try to walk a few step, no pain, start a slow jog, no pain, what the heck, I turn on my turbo again cause I have lost count my position.

I only see all the unusual face around, that mean I also in unusual position, so have to ‘pia’ all my strength and speed. Pass a men open participant, not familiar, another few also not familiar, then after 1k, ahhhh… there he go, the ‘kaki’ in training, plan to slow down and pace with him, but he say, still not out of danger zone. Aiyo! Have to pia again in the full force, until 500 meter to go, I can see kenny, this time sure in save zone to get the medal, YES! I can see the girl hold a big punch of it, that ‘kaki’ again play fool of me, I in 26 out of 50 medals, aiyah! Walk also can lah!
But the race not end there, after grab the medal like ribbon I run anther 100m to my wife which sit there with frustrate face, have to quickly change my outfit in road site. I get the horn and yell while doing this, so I give ‘what the heck’ hand signal only then they went off noisily, never see people change in road meh?
I got another frustrated eye from the bus driver which I was late by 3 minute, damn lucky organizer change the route to 7k which I can done in 29 minute… or else I dunno what will happen to the bus… maybe they change the tyre while waiting for me? Hmmm…

I want to Breathe again.... Breathe again...

Believe

(Hazy days, hazy days, hazy days, hazy days)
(Hazy days, hazy days, hazy days, hazy days)
(Hazy days, hazy days, hazy days, hazy days)

No matter how hard I try
I simply just can't breathe
And I can't go out
There's just no running for me

It's sad we're not training
It's sad we're not racing
But what to do, the air is bad?
We're gonna be the unfit ones, oh

Chorus:
Do you believe in clear and blue skies?
Been so long, I can't remember
I really want to get out there and run
Do you believe in clear and blue skies?
I miss my track and klcc
I really want to get out there and run, yeah

Malay Mail Big Walk Postponed Due To Haze

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- The Malay Mail Big Walk scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been postponed indefinitely due to the haze.

According to a statement from the Malay Mail Wednesday, the event which was scheduled to be held at Dataran Merdeka was called off as the corner stone of the walk was to promote the spirit of togetherness and healthy living.

"With the haze at this level, we are not willing to put public health in jeopardy especially the large number of school children involved," said the statement sent to Bernama.

However, the organisers reiterated their commitment to organise the event on a later date which will be announced soon.

Penang Round Der_Island Relay 2005: Calling for entries

Once again, it's that time of the year! Yes, the Penang Round Island Relay 2005 on Dec 18th. After last year's false start we hope to be able to form a team for this year's edition. In case you're not aware, Der_Pacemakers team was formed just for this event, so it brings about a bit of nostalgia. For this year's outing, we aim to raise a team of 18 runners comprising of 15 main runners and 3 reserve. If it happens, this trip up north will be sort of a holiday and fun run for Der_Pacemakers and friends as well, which is a good way to close the year ("sau kong" in Cantonese) after a hard and tough racing season.

Coordinating the registration of the team is
Tan Boon Seng aka BoSe who is now based in Penang acting as our ear-on-the-ground as well as being responsible for accomodation arrangements while Team Captain Ronnie aka Der_100 Medal Man will be responsible to crack the whip in case anyone pulls out, which brings us to the next point. As this is a team event, if anyone pulls out, it will affect the team's arrangement. Ronnie will communicate to everyone the date of submission for the entry as well as the finalized team members, and from then on there must be no withdrawals.

To safeguard against pull-outs, a deposit will be collected based on the room sharing arrangements. For example, if 4 persons want to share a room, then the 4 should come up with 50% deposit. So if the room is RM100, then each of the 4 will pay RM13 each. In the event of forfeiture, the money will go to the team's refreshments.

So far, Ronnie, Ryan Teoh (PM17), Jason Lim (PM23) and BoSe have confirmed their participation. If you're interested please send an email to
Der_Captain. More information will be communicated over the next few months.

Breakdown of the course as confirmed by
Vincent (PM10)

Leg 1 = flat (fastest runners here to build gap)
2 = flat (fastest runners here to build gap)
3 = flat
4 = Uphill all the way (strong hill runner needed)
5 = 500m up and all the way down
6 = flat
7 = 2K flat, 3.9K steep hill
8 = down hill (strong quads needed)
9 = (able to stand heat)
10 = (able to stand heat)
11 = (able to stand heat)
12 = (able to stand heat)

He's Der_Man!

I certainly don't mean for this posting to read like a tribute to PM1 mainly because tributes are usually written for folks past their prime, retiring, or dying! But for achieving his feat, he certainly warrants some mentioning. Many of us rely on him for race information, registration, source of funny race reports and running tips. He abstains from pork and cuttlefish, yet with his dedication to his own training, devotion to his ex-girlfriend-turned-wife and responsibilities to his in-laws, he still finds energy week in week out to race well.

Just this recent Sunday, he celebrated the collection of his 100th medal and I'm sure that I speak on behalf of the rest of us who frequent this blog, that we celebrated with him. The 100th medal was made all the more sweet since it came at the end of 8 weekends of racing. Who is he? He's Der_Pacemaker # 1, Ronnie See. We wish him the best and may he continue to plunder the races and yet ensuring that there are sufficient medals left for the rest of us mortals! If you'd like, you can post your congratulatory messages by clicking on the "Comments" link.
